My questions never stop.

Anyways, I'm trying to replace the four belts in my engine bay, but my Chilton manual doesn't offer much help.

Can anyone tell me where to find the bolts to loosen/tighten the pulleys and instructions on how to pull off the fan to get the belts off after they're loosened?

the fan is 4 nuts. kinda hard to get to. you'll need a wench. I think 10mm. and I use a flathead screwdriver across another nut to stop the fan from turning.

the alternator and air pump have ajustment brackets. losen both bolts on each and the will push closer to the engine. for the P/S and A/C. you have to lossen the big nut on the smaller pulleys (17,19, or 21mm) then there are long bolts on the top of the bracket to move the pulleys up and down.

Oops, forgot my last question. Does anyone have the lenth of the four belts? I can't exactly pull them off to take in since I need the car to get there.

u do NOT HAVE TO REMOVE FAN, un-educated people these days, once u loosen the belts, u hold the belt on one fin and hold the belt on that fin, spin the fan, the belt should be on the opposite side.

kinda hard to explain, but lemme try make some pics.

1) find a pair of strong wire cutting pliers
2) cut all the belts but your alternator belt
4) remove the accessories that are now unpowered
3) smile while driving your more reliable, lighter, and faster car
4) mail me money to spend on my 20B project as thanks

I always found it easier to take the fan off.
This assumes the nuts are in good shape and not over tightened.
I used a 10mm box end wrench (an open end will likely round off the nuts.)
A large adjustable wrench will handle the AC & PS idler pully nuts.
12mm & 14mm sockets will work for the air pump & alternator.

I switched to an electric fan last month - so now it's even easier.

When removing them off a friends 90' GTU, we had to take off that huge plastic fan cover, and then loosen the belt and work it around the fan. Actually, I think we got mad and just cut the old ones, and worked the new ones around the fan and put those on. It takes some time, but if you can remove the fan i'm sure it's muuucchhh easier.

Sorry to bring this up again guys, but I've ran into soem problems.

I was able to get off the power steering belt by removing the small bolts on the big pulley. However, I can't figure out how to get the A/C belt off.

Theres a weird long screw that runs into the piece behind the small pulley. (See Figure A)

Also I've been able to take off the big bolt on the same small pulley, it won't budge at all. (See Figure B) Any hints on that?

IMO its easier to remove the fan than to dick around trying to slip the belt over it.

but then you'll have to spend all that time removing and re-installing the fan... i did my belts the first time and just took them off around the fan.... too lazy to take the fan off hehehe
