let me put it this way. I get to drive her eight months out of the year. The other four are "fixing" months.

The previous owner left my poor 88 TII sitting for 1 1/2 years. When I bought it it needed:

new brake caliper
tranny rebuild
paint job
body work
fuel filter

After fixing the brake caliper and fuel filter I have only had two problems. 1 was a vacuum leak. This was simply because a hose popped off. and the second is the wiper switch problem.

The paint and body work are from an accident (just body damage, thank god) which have nothing to do with reliability. The tranny seems like it should be going about now anyway at 113,000 miles.

Engine still runs strong. No weird boost, no smoke at all, including startup. No leaking fluids. Runs nice and cool (1/5 up the guage), no funny turbo noises, no backfiring, and it idles at a solid 750 rpm after the AWS stops. This car has been terribly reliable, especially considering the mileage and that it was sitting unattended for over a year. Mazda is awesome.

nothing out of the ordinary, I mean the car is old, and some parts need to be replaced, like engine and tranny mounts, but nothing bad.

My 10 AE just rolled over to 197,000 miles yesterday and it's still going. Original motor.

The coolant seals are about gone (getting water in my oil), I have to add fluids all the time, the exhaust is clogged up worse than a fat man's ateries after a night at a fried chicken buffet, the fuel injectors leak to the point of having to use a fuel-cut switch to start the car if I'm running errands......

But I'll be damned if that thing hasn't gotten me around every single day for the 4 months that I've owned it.

I'll drive it til 200,000 for bragging rights; by then I'll definitely have another car, and AE is going into sweet retirement.

I just bought my vert and I'm very happy to have it. It is also fun for me to work on it. Especially since I am not a auto tech, nor do I have the tools or knowledge to do too much to my car. But for every little thing that I fix I can be proud of my RX. So far the only thing my RX has let me down on is that it failed the emissinons test.

I still need to fix the speedometer and power windows. Plus replace / add some other misc stuff.

Stuff I fixed:
Battery negitive connection cable
APC fog lamps and wiring (DO NOT BUY APC!!!, I didn't buy these and I wouldn't wish APC on a dead goat)
Gas tank and trunk release and cables.
"Cheap" air filter replacement...K&N style (but NOT K&N)

I have an 1987 N/A Sport and it has never ran so I cannot even say. Only thing wrong is a blown engine so far. But, it was a steal at $300.

this poll needs more options...if you have parts failing once a month i would hardly call that "rarely."

if I had something fail every week I'd sell the unreliable piece of *****... usually have some little issue to deal with every 6 months or so, on my 88 t2.

Its starting to get frustrating. The cars spent 5 months of the year down........

It was two incidents, engine failure and now transmission failure. Im hoping this will be the last of them for more then a couple months......

Once you get everything fixed, the car is very reliable. It's fixing everything that's the pain in the *** part...

On other side, more months its not running i am saving $$$ on gas so i could afford to buy new and expensive aftermarket parts. And more these parts = more problems = less driving = bigger savings = and buying even more parts and so on....

My N/A is very reliable, except when something breaks, it breaks BIGTIME, and cost a small fortune, such as the engine

I've had my gen 2 for three years, And I've had to replace the clutch master cylinder, clutch and driveshaft. Thats all and its been driven fairly hard every day-plus I put a centerforce clutch in so its more fun now any way. The clutch had been replaced right before I got it on my 85, and the CMC needed replacing. I fixed that and then I damaged the ujoints so I replaced the driveshaft. Besides that I've had no other problems, my rides have been very reliable.

So I shouldn't really buy an RX7 because I tend to drive quite fast. My average cruising speed on main 2 lane highways is 70-80mph and my Celica (poor old thing,263 000km and still ticking like new) has seen over 130mph many times.

But I like the sound of bigger and better stuff to continue going faster. Too bad getting bigger and better stuff doesnt make your wallet bigger and better, only smaller and thinner.

The previous owner of my car beat the crap out of the engine since it was new. And when I bought it 3 yrs. ago it had 87,000 miles of pure hell on it. Now I drive it harder then he did and still take it to my local drag strip and even some autocross events where I squeeze every last bit of life out of it. And to my suprise I havent had any major problems with it other than normal stuff like fuel pump, brakes, vacum hoses, and other little stuff. As much as I beat it up I take care of it with regular maint. If I was to have a major problem I would have to take across the mountain to Seattle becuase my town blows ***!
