Stranding problems? No...
Problems included:
AC compressor siezing and causing the belt to smoke and make a gawdawful noise until I cut the damn belt off
Wouldn't smog worth a damn (probably from the vac leak from one of the solenoids, didn't find out that one until after I started tearing it apart..
But I think the biggest problem was the pulsation dampner failure that caused it to catch fire
That was a bad thing.

I've done a fair bit of the "little things" that just keep it running "nice", but aren't really serious.. Oil filter pedestal o-rings, thermo pellet shim, fuel cut switch... (that's like, 3$ right there for all three combined if you do it yourself).
The only time I ever got stranded was when I broke my alternator belt..

8 years and never given me a problem where it has broken down on me. I have replaced things like mad and kept very good maintenance. I have had to replace several things just due to the age brakes, brake rotors, vac lines, oil pan and OMP leaks, of the car but thats expected. Whenever I replace or up grade I usually break something because its old and rotted or seized up so it needed replaced any way.
Id say the biggest thing that I did that needed replaced was the old rotted vac lines and clean TB very good, and replace the fuel filter and flush and fill the rad. Cause you never know if the previous owner took care of those things.
Dont forget these cars are not spring chickens they need your attention and they will run fine.
