How much presure does it take to opin the 6 ports on an S5 from the air pump?

WRONG
1.5 PSI, provided by the Air pump.
The vaccum switch to trigger the air to pressurize the dashpots is a electric switch, but its the ari pump that does it.
And stop thinking of routing air pump air to the intake for BOOST.

Well, the air isn't opening the ports, the switch is activated by air, which then makes the electric portion take over Just messing with ya. What I meant was that air isn't what opens them like the series 4's do. I should have said backpressure instead

NO, actually, there is NO backpressure applied frrom the exhaust to open these ports.
The air pressure from the air pump is used to open the ports.
The VDI is also used to enable the air flow to the sleeves, once the dashpots pud upward to open the ports.
This is all done via the air from the Airpump and the decisions are made via the ECU by switching solenoids over by the driver side shock tower.
Exhaust backpressure is solely a PRE-S5 method of operating the ports.
The air pressure from the air pump is used to open the ports.

Ok I thank I get this, but what dose the back PIS tube from the Main cat have to do with it all, I know, I am just thinking of putting Duel exhaust on my GXL & GSL-SE and If I do not have to buy the RB pre silencers then that will save me a big Chunk of cash

Its not a Backpressure tube...
The tube going to the cat is supplying air from the air pump to keep you catalytic converter "lit"..
Like a glow plug.
This keeps it red hot so that it will burn all the combustable exhaust gases.
If your changinf exhaust to NOT require a cat, then realize two things.
1) you'll never pass another emissions test.
2) You'll never be able to walk near the back of your car without your eyes burning like HELL!

you Arkansas, you can't walk behind Wild thang anyway because 4 oz of MMO go in every tank of gas, the cat was hollowed out and when I got her. Now that my eyes are not watering, I can go ahead with the duel job. What brand or type of muffler ? Not to loud and not restricting, glass pack's don't last very long, they don't sell the thrush turbo hear any more, any suggestions would help as well as more advise. Thanks again for your advise.

hhmm. If you hooked the port intake thing that goes from the air pump to a secondary hose from a supercharger it wouldn't mess it up would it? Like you could dampen the psi leading to the actuator thingy so it would still open but have the supercharger in the spot where the air pump used to be. So you don't have to getto rig your stuff open. I would like to know.

The actuation idea should work in theory, because at ~3500rpm when the aux ports normally open, the S/C would be producing enough pressure to operate the actuators. The S4 actuators only need 2.1psi to fully open the ports, the S5 ones 1.4psi, so you would definitely need to use a pressure reducing valve (not a damper) so as not to risk popping the diaphragms in the actuators at full boost.
This idea is much better than your last two...

I agree, this idea is a lot more logical than the last ones. There is purpose behind this one.
In all logic, it sounds like it could work, but you'd probably want something that functions like a bov to keep it from blowing them up. Good idea, if you can make it work.

My RX has 146000 mi and it takes about 5psi to open the 6-ports and VDI. My ACV is removed, so air pump pressure relief is a 1.5" slit in the shortened plugged outlet hose. It sounds cool as you rev it up.

If it take 5psi to open the 6ports, then your 6 ports arent opening on their own.
the engine doesnt produce that kind of pressure to open the ports.
you should tear down and clean the intake system.
I dont know the mods that your speakinf of, but those port sleeves are gummed up pretty badly.

Since you seem to have quite a bit of knowledge on this subject, what would it take to get the 6 ports to open if you were fitting a '90 Motor to the 87 Chassis? Any ideas? Should the ACV and airpump do it automatically?
Obviously it won't be controlled by the ECU...

No you would have to use the earlier way of doing it.
Also verify that the ports on your car push or pull to open the sleeves.
The 1989+ cars PUSH UP to open the sleeves.
You will have to downconvert the mechanism to work like the car originally would have worked.
(Sinde the ecu wont open the valve)
Now you COULD use a RPM switch to open the vacuum switch from a 89+ car. that would emulate the 89+ecu function you are missing.
