My '87 base did not come with one. I am getting ready to cap off the lines on my fiance's '87 Sport because I just do not want to put all the bracketry and crap back on.
I like not having power steering because to me I can "feel" the car better than if it was assisted. I have driven both types and can definately say that non-assisted is better than assisted for our cars.

I swapped in a manual rack in my car. It was a pain when parking. I liked having it at the track. Gave good feedback. But it was hard to drift with, which is primarily what I do with my car these days. So I just recently put my power steering pump and rack back in.

I think power steering is weak on sports cars like Rx7's.
So on all my fc's I remove the power steering.
One primary reason I do this is because I think it takes away from the feel of the road. And control is much better without it.
Now on the other hand in my 4X4, I keep power steering because when you four wheel through serrious rocks and boulders its much much better to have.

Mine has it, and AFAIK so do all other JDM FC's.

Yeah I could see why one would prefer it.
But ironically since my shocks are pretty old it feels like I'm driving a stone slab. Bet putting it back in there might make the road a little more comfortable instead of feeling every little pebble.

I have kept all my luxuries. Power steering, Cruise control, AC, Etc. I would rather add a few horsepower with mods and keep the things that make life easier ... rather than gain an Hp or 2 by pulling that stuff off. IMO.

My car came with power steering, but when the pump blew out, I had my friend replace it with a manual rack. Had I known how much better the manual rack was, I would have replaced it much sooner. The stock PS is good as far as PS goes, so it's not the end of the world for those who like or need PS.
FYI I have a scanned article of the 86 RX-7 steering system on my crummy website. Just click on my www button.

I only don't have it because it's broken, but I want to fix it.. and i will. I like it becasue it's useful pretty much from 10mph down, making it easier to park and stuff, but at higher speeds i have the nice tall gearing so i can use small movements of my knee to steer

I just remove it and loop the lines together, and I daily drive that thing and park just as often as anybody else here. But then again, I did drive my '86 silverado around for months without power steering. Try turning tires with a 396 sitting above them, now THAT takes some force!

I have it on my SE, and I don't intend to ever take it off... I'm used to not having it on my AE86, but I kinda like the luxurious feel to my FC. So no luxury cutting for me.

none here,i got a lowly base model.between having to shift wierd to keep from grinding 2nd and 3rd,and pulling that steering wheel at slow speeds,my 7 feels a llot like a dump truck, now anything over 30mph is a breeze, but once you get to 120,my lack of any alignment in the entire vehicle really shines,im just to sentimental .....power steering is just another thing that would break on me,oh yeah i leak in rainwater in two spots too.and my anntena broke, and it runs hot.and the engine bay looks like a grime and grease convention,hooooooray...someone buy my car,,,cheap
