#5
I'm not in the USA, but I've got TWO turboverts so I figured I'd post :P
1: 88 converted to '89 (full S5 everything, inside and out, S5 TII engine.. 3" exhaust and intake, otherwise stock, running 6psi.
2: 89 widebody, 60,000 miles, S4 TII engine, full 3" widebody kit, popup headlights deleted with IMSA style lights, intake, exhaust, standalone etc.

ive got one.. i got lucky and bought mine with the body kit and paintjob.. I had to work out a lot of little odds and ends and put those rims on it.. i know theyre not the nicest.. but its what i had layin around in my garage (theyre better then stock s5 GXL wheels) I want to spend some money and get some really nice ones.. so im holding out till i finish getting it where i want it to be. my goal is around 500rwhp.. itll be there in a few months.. and ill have it at sevenstock.

So I have a turbo vert from the factory in Germany. Would it be worth any more than any other non-normal t-vert?
I'm debating on bringing to the US when I finish my tour here in Germany.

My TurboVert
To add to the collection, myS4 TurboVert.
Since this picture, the 17's pictured (albeit now with Mazda logo center caps) and RB Turbo Back exhaust have been added. I also added a complete S4 stock Aero kit (those rubber deflectors in front of all 4 tires) including the tail mounted to the trunk lid. Other than a Koyo Radiator, everything under the hood is stock. Still to be mounted are a set of those hard to find stock mud flaps.
I did a complete S4 ASpec retro-fit from engine through rear half shafts, and otherwise kept all emissions in place.
BTW, so long as the emissions are kept, I confirmed with the local CARB ref that no inspection or sign off is needed (at least in California) since the TII drivetrane was a stock "option" for that model year.

When I got my vert it was an NA automatic with a rebuilt engine. Then the transmission started to go and I pretty much lost 2nd gear. I pulled the rebuild out with just over 3k miles on it and did the full T2 swap. Some people may say I am crazy for pulling a fresh engine out to do the swap, but I don't regret it at all.
Turbo Vert > NA Vert
If you need to rebuild the NA engine you might as well just do the turbo swap. You will not regret it one bit. Verts are the only 2nd gen I would bother converting to turbo, unless someone is just too attached to their coupe.

Its really such a shame that Mazda did not import the turbo vert over here. I am not sure if it was them or us, but at any rate, it would have been a hot seller no doubt. Not to mention, there would be so many of them on the road and alot of us would not have to go through the grueling swap procedure.

Mods:
S5 Rotors - Street Ported
ACT 4Puck street clutch
HKS SS
Racing Beat Turbo Back
HKS FCD
Optima Yellow Top
That's about it for now .. basically enough to run around 230-240whp. I'll up the boost once i get the profec spec b 2 and larger injectors.
BTW heres a pic of my car before the swap went in (it'll look the same as after but I don't have pics of the actual swap as of right now).
(wheels are for sale btw)

Frank, I really like your car. I can't stand verts (not just RX-7's, in any car) but I do like yours. I remember eyeing it up when it was for sale.
To add to the thread, it's not my car, but there is a turbo vert running around York, PA. Well, there was.
