Top Speed.
I have hit about 115-120 in fourth gear. I didn't go any faster becuase I ran out of road. This speed took about 3/4 to a mile to go this fast. The tach was at 4800, so I am sure there is alot more than that.

Top Speed
I bought my 86 brand new, the best I got out of it was 138 on the highway heading up to Binghampton New York. I took a while and was fully wrung out. Maybe the newer ones got faster or something. But that was it for that car. It was very, very smooth at that speed... maybe a touch twitchy which is to be expected I think.
I sold that car with 238K on it and it was still running, but getting pretty tired.
I also owned a 90 GXL automatic. That car was a dog, maybe 130-132 and it sucked down low. Never, never, never buy an automatic sports car. One of my life's big lessons. I sold it after 6 months.

I do 130 every now and then, with Absolute NO problem, (winters freeway, in Abilene Texas) but the quickest has been 146mph (RT 707 just east of the 277 intersection) and then i ran out of usable road. car seemed a little more lofty then, at 70mph. Sometimes it's scary, when you hit a bump at that speed.

I love to get mine up to 100 MPH or so and do so often, but I have no heart for doing top speed records in my car...Too much can go wrong and at that speed, you won't get a second chance...Please keep it safe guys and keep em on the road!

140mph in my 86 GXL. The car felt suprisingly smooth at that speed; It almost felt like it was floating. My old '82 Datsun pickup, however, felt like it was about to lift off the ground anytime I'd go over 80--It would even start to move sideways in both directions .

i hit 140 and my car felt smooth as it does at 80. it shook a little while acelerating from 100-120 but once i got into fith it was smooth. even though i was on my h rated tires.

i've done 135 a few times. light traffic. Have had the n/a fc up to 139 and at that point, it would not go just sit.
running out of road wasnt a concern since highways are pretty straight(no sharp bends that may cause a spin).
Have had bad tires, out of balance wheels, bad shocks/springs and the trip over 70 was kidney damaging.
Good tires, wheels, suspension...nice sharp ride no shakes and pretty nice all around feeling of flight!

in my T2, i've hit 145 on my way home from college with a passenger and a shitload of stuff in the back and going up a slight incline. she was steady as could be. she was still pullin when i let off, due to the female passenger that was getting scared oh well. lately she has been lackin up at the igher speeds, but that should all change after this summer
oh, i was on 380 coming from lubbock going to dallas

Place: HWY 54 West of Littlefield, TX, flat straight nothing out there but dirt.
Time : Many times between 9 am and 7 pm. If you do a top end run in the dark your asking for trouble.
Speed: 155 mph
Ride: pretty smooth, not shaky and no odd sounds or vibrations. I can personally vouch it is rougher than a C5 Vette and smoother than a Viper.

My 87 TII is bone stock; and I have been over 145 quite a few times... never any problems, and plenty more to go; but I usually get over-paranoid at that point... My wife would never let me live it down if I got nailed at those speeds... I live a little ways out of town, and there are some nice, long straight roads

top speed for my 91 vert is 127mph with the top down or up. The car just runs out of hp, it still has plenty of RPMs till the 8K redline. It seems like the car feels smoother with the top down, despite the incredible 'breeze'that I feel. I think the folded down top acts as a primitive spoiler, therefore keeping the car more planted to the road. Anyone else feel the same about their 'vert?

I had my 90 GXL auto up to 135mph in the test drive and it was still pulling when I decided I actually wanted to keep my license a little longer and I backed off. It was smooth as hell and still pulling. If you take care of the auto tranny it'll haul ***...just not off the line

Tacho- borrowed from the greek word for SPEED.
Used in compound for the formation of the word tachometer.
I am refereing to MPH instrument being burried
that's what I meant.
But I guess its RPMS too. 5 gear @ 8000 RPMS = some speed X.

i would guess 150 -160 range. Alhtough I would have to
do some angular velocity equations relating the linear speed of 5th gear that translates the linear arc length of the tire @ 7800.
Interesting
Problem: 7800 RPM @ 5th gear = speed.
To find this, what is the angular fequency of the the arc length around the gear relative to that of the engine? Then we could know the ratio of the tires rotation to that of the each gear. And then we would know the speed.
I'll get back to ya.
