how long?

How long does it typicly take to strip down to the lim cause I have a fucked up idle and I decided to just replace all the gaskets and vacuum lines at one time. The cars almost 20 years old and it's all original so it's due for new **** anyways... what do you think total time would be to take apart and put together... I still have all emissions crap.. which I need to keep till after I get it smogged. I'm good with tools and I've ripped through an n/a before.

First time? Give yourself all day after lunch one saturday or something. My first time took me several hours just to get it all apart because it was all-original and I had to get to frustrated point of not caring about whether I break something or not to realize that beating the **** out of the intake assembly with a hammer to get it apart wasn't exactly a bad idea.

lol... I kinda understand that.. had problems with a n/a lim I guess I need to kinda look for pictures of how to put it together cause my dumbass will surely forget which hose goes where.... I'm sure I can dig in fairly quick but... jobs that are supposed to take a few hours tend to take days... usually cause of one freakn bolt.... so you guys think at a normal pace I should be able to get it done in a weekend? maybe I should wait for thanksgiving concidering I have 9 days off... and I can't seem to get my n/a running... heres an odd off topic question... I drove my n/a 2 weeks ago... I parked it to drive my t2... then I go to drive the n/a and the thing won't start... I've got gas in it... I checked for flooding.. it turns over but it just kinda puffs for a second... like it's getting a week combustion... maybe thats just compressed air I'm hearing... I need to go back and check again.

The NA LIM comes off super easy, it uses a metal gasket. The turbo one, for some totally fucked up reason, uses like a paper-ish gasket, at least the one that I saw did! what the **** is up with that? I mean no wonder people have to hammer that ******* thing off.

For the S4 NA, I could dissasemble and rebuild (with all gaskets etc) the intake assembly in like 4 hours of hard assed work. Its always going to take longer, especially when you have to scrape off old ******* gasket, add like triple your Estimated time for that ****..

the time isnt in taking the thing off....the UIM came off with a slight tap.....cleaning off old gaskets took me the longest.....got gasket remover...didnt work....scraper didnt work....at the end it was a combo of the two with lots of time that finially got it right

I've never seen a metal gasket used on an intake...dunno...

I've spent a lot of time chiping off that paper ****...done a lot of damage, too, trying to get it off. Found that, if you're feeling risky, and have an open deck planer, just set that bitch to 1/8" and remove that ******. I actually used my planer to remove 1/16 of metal from all the surfaces and lapped them before reassembly. I also do not use gaskets when reassembling. I use copper-spray sealant...I'm also used this stuff instead of a headgasket on my EX500 and CB900 engines with good results...I hate headgaskets...

Scotch brite pad is what I use at work. On a Die grinder to remove gaskets before machining. Just be easy on the pressure as to not damae the metal. That or a wire wheel will work. And if you want to clean them over night and have a clean manifold to work with in the worning. Id use varsal that is keep at about 140 degrees. And what we use to clean some pieces is a kind of kitchen cleaner that is almost brought to a boil oevenight. Then just spary off in the moring and whipe down with laquer thinner to prevent rust on any metal pieces.
