I think it says "Normal/Sport" not Normal/Race.
I never felt the difference in mine or the wife's (back when we had hers) when switching from Normal to Sport. And most people will say the same. When my shocks went out, I just replaced them with KYBs.

hahahaha....normal/race....on my friends MK3 supra it did very little.....i also had one on my GXL before..but the car wasnt road worthy so i never tried it out....my guess is that back in the days...it might have worked....but most ppl now just ditch it completely and get aftermakets

I had that on my GXL, if you swerved back and forth and pressed the button you could almost feel a difference. That was with 50K orig miles too. I took all that off and put kyb agx's on. I heard the replacement shocks for it were like 500 each or something, is that true?

If the car is accelerated quickly while driving below 37 MPH, the anti-squat feature kicks in. When the anti-squat feature engages, if the normal button is pressed the front struts and rear shocks will automatically change over from the soft setting to the firm setting. If the sport button is pressed, the front struts and rear shocks will automatically change over from the firm setting to the very firm setting.
AAS also controls is anti-dive. Anti-dive is engaged if someone suddenly jumps on the brakes. When the anti-dive feature engages, if the normal button is pressed the front struts and rear shocks will automatically change over from the soft setting to the firm setting. If the sport button is pressed, the front struts and rear shocks will automatically change over from the firm setting to the very firm setting.
During regular driving, if the normal button is pressed the front struts and rear shocks will be in the soft setting until the car reaches 50 MPH. Above 50 MPH, the front struts will automatically change over to the firm setting, while the rears are left in the soft setting. If the sport button is pressed, the front struts and rear shocks will be in the firm setting until the car reaches 50 MPH. Above 50 MPH, the front struts will automatically change over to the very firm setting, while the rears are left in the firm setting.
The AAS struts are made by KYB (my old ones and the new factory replacements were both stamped as such), and the rear shocks are manufactured by Tokico.
Good to have? If they are the original parts that were shipped with the car back in the crustacean period, then they are probably junk. Any oil that hasn’t leaked has turned to mayonnaise and the seals don't. If you buy brand new AAS struts and shocks they will work just as good as any comparable replacement. The only catch is you have to bring a boat load of cash ($750-800) versus half of that for non-AAS units.
Of course, if you like electronically controlled suspension, there’s always the aftermarket . . . . . .
