some people just get mad and argue about tach and speedometers being wrong because they can't get their cars past 90...and when they do, the wheels woble so bad that the speedo is way off...and they know this because of some gps devise...and they argue with proven math formulas because they just have to be right because they have a car that has a faulty speedo
BTW..THEORETICAL refers to a speed that could be obtained but is limited due to factors such as the coefficient of drag, HP, etc...i just drove my car and I swear that I was standing still with the car off but the tach was at least at 100rpm and the speedo was at 10mph...what was the gear ratio again for neutral?? "Scotty, I need warp 8 now!" " But sir, are you sure we are going light speed. The light speedometer could be a wee bit off, ye know" ....
Balanced falken azenis tires, along with agx struts & eibach springs tend to squat at about 90, pretty much preventing any wobble. Speedo, cable, and gears replaced by mazda less than 1k miles ago, S-AFC AND standalone clearly point out the fact that the stock Tach reads off. And of course, THEORETICAL is easily obtained. The point is, your car doesn't live in THEORY, and drag, temp, etc, slow it down. Now, you can't really argue against 3 different RPM signals, the fact that even with your RPM's reading higher, the original poster (and most those afterwards), have not been at the speeds they mentioned (since the rpm vs gear ratio doesn't change) Regardless however, it's hard to argue against radar, a GPS, and 3 different tach readings to imply that the speedometer reads wrong. And of all the vehicles I own, and have driven in, I find it odd to find that not one has a speedometer that functions properly, but of course that's just coincidence.

now i knwo what the problem is...your rear end SQUATS at 90 mph(should get that looked at) and you had your car worked on my MAZDA..the speedo cable at that...here is what I will do. There is a BOSCH store that has a dyno...and this dyno measures speed too....after I get my new clutch in(this will be a month or so) then I will start a new thread and post the results...but for now"SCOTTY-Beam me outta here"

that's just as irrelevant as theoretical speed. A dyno doesn't produce drag caused by wind, which is why it's a bit harder to redline in the wind than it is on a dyno. What whatever floats your boat, trolling is just making you look like another *** who can't actually provide evidence to argue anything I've said.

I've been in ScrapFC's N/A car at 120 with only intake and header/hiflo cat. and that was at night with the headlights up, no belly pan, and an extra passenger's worth of weight (me). I think its possible with headlights down, downhill (as he said) and a good strong tailwind...

Are you trying to insinuate that you'll be able to reach the same speed on a dyno as you will on even a perfectly flat tarmac surface?

Well my 4 door 1986 Chrysler lebaron with 2.5 liters of turbo terror almost hit 90mph but the cars suspension was so soft and it sat so high I almost took flight if I would of stuck my arms out the windows.

Try waving your hand in the air right now. Then go 95 in a car, roll the window down, and try waving your hand around again. Its a little bit harder isnt it? You see, thats because air still has mass and density. When you are going through it at high speeds, it provides a resisting force against your car, making it much harder to reach high speeds.

Now go back to Europe where the air is magical.

...i repeat his quote...

not because it has any basis in reality or I agree with him or the other trolls, but because I figured they were were getting lonely arguing against EASILY proven numbers.

- Yes, I know I'm a jerk.
- No, I don't care.

SonicRat - Keep fighting the good fight man, maybe some day they'll listen

Good, you repeat your quote. So you've proven to me that you are in fact stupid, have no real evidence of these speeds, know absolutely nothing about physics, and pretty much should not even be arguing about this. Maybe I should have listened to your mom.

145??? come on now i dont think your tires are even rated for that high! I think stock tires are 205/60 R 15 91H those are only rated to 120mph!!

Wow...how did I miss this one!? Sonic is right...period. there is no point in arguing any longer. The few of you who are suffering from, what I like to call, "Delusions Of Self-Importance" need to go read a ******* book! A Physics book. Top-Speed test on a Dyno are as useless as building a 1881hp Escudo on GT3 and claiming you own the fastest car in the world! Secondly, Ricer magazine called...they want to run a report on the RX7 that runs a 7 second quarter mile trapping speeds of 200+ on pump gas and street tires! They are intriqued! As we all are!

I don't normally like to get into this, however, I owned a Plym Neon that ran a low 13 in the quarter...I was not going any faster than 100. I don't remember all the numbers...but that car would WALK my Rex and it topped out at 136. I know the speed-O was off because it read somewhere in the range of 148 (it was a 0-150mph aftermarket speed-o) and I got the ticket stating 136. So, speedo's are off most of the time...Not by any EXACT number but by a percentage.

If you argue my next point you are obviously displaying your ignorance and unwillingness to be educated. I am close to holding my degree in automotive technologies...so here you are... To confirm, Sonic Rat's formula is a PROVEN formula that EVERYONE in the Automotive realm uses on a daily basis. Whether it be the EPA gathering information for fuel economy and emissions, or the lovely techs at Car And Driver that road test the latest for our knowledge and entertainment. Do not argue with Sonic Rat...he is not being biased...he is stating FACT. You cannot **** with FACT! Sorry!

Secondly, back to the speedo...they are never off by 5 mph's, 10 mph's...No! They are off by a certain percentage...I will make this one easy for the ignorant ones in the room! Let's say you are going down the road at 50 mph's...You come up to a radar cart on the side of the road that flashes your vehicle speed to you. (Radar shoots a laser at a certain ppms{Pulses per Mili-Second} and calculates how many pulses return in how much time over a span of time... Get it?!) The radar cart lists 55mph. Your speedometer is off by +10%. If you were registering 100mph's you would, in actuallity, be travelling at 110mph. Simple math and simple formulas are here for people to release realistic numbers. 145 mph could be attained...under EXTREME GOOD conditions. Unlikely that ANYONE in a 2nd gen rex can reach speeds THAT high.

I pulled by a Radar Cart in the my Rex reading 150 on my speedo...I was only going 115 according to the cart. So, educate your ignorant asses! Or, **** off!

This thread is dead, it's nothing but a bunch of trolls now, the initial questions/etc have been covered. I'm going to ask a MOD to close/delete.

Troll/trolling is an internet term for someone who comes and posts just to upset people and to make them argue. They have a stupid fascination with looking stupid and starting arguements because they get the attention mommy would never give them. You have only replied to the comments of the said 'trolls' with fact, and are not inciting to argue more based on blatant stupidity just for the sake of making a bigger arguement. Thus, you would not be a troll.

well...if you had enough power to max the rpms, and you had enough downforce to keep you on the ground than yes it would be pretty close right?

But i doubt he, or many people at all have that kind of power

i'm just saying that air resistance doesn't affect you on a dyno. With enough power, yeah, you could.

A hi-powered FC could do 160mph easily, I think. I'll find out in a couple months anyway.

I had my speedo pegged at 160 and the rpms were still climbing.

I know i wasnt doing 160 but it was damn fast
