How do you tell if the oil pump is working?

I've got a 1988 S4 that I took out of storage after two years. It was driven maybe twice in that time, both times for under 10 minutes. Now I'm starting to use it on an almost daily basis, and I'm wondering how I can make sure the OMP is working correctly. I don't want to run the seals dry without knowing it, but all I can think of is watching the oil level, which would probably take at least a few weeks to notice going down.

Should I premix to be safe for the first month, until I can clearly see the oil level has dropped? (assuming it's not leaving any drips in the driveway, that is). I'm hoping there is an easier way to check that I'm getting oil.

Related question: The car is NA, but I believe it has a Turbo's oil pump. It gets up to ~100psi at times, and I'm always afraid I'll burst a line. You guys think I should do anything about it? It's been fine for 10,000+ miles.

Thanks a lot!

there is a test procedure in the FSM which involves disconnecting the lines and measuring how much oil is coming through in a set period of time. aside from that there is no real way of telling how much oil the OMP is injecting.

if you're worried about it, premixing is superior anyways.

sometimes you can look at the oil lines and see the oil being pumped.

Aw shucks. The engine oil pump has not much to do with the OMP at all.

Like the man said, read the LUBRICATION section of the free online FSM for how to tell if the OMP is working or not.

Just chunk some two stroke oil in the full gas tank (approx 16oz) til you figure it out. Put in a few oz more or less than 16oz? Big deal. It's not a big deal if you put in a bit less or a bit more. Tooooo much is made of the 16oz bs.
