I have a 86 fc and i would like to take the shift **** if and replace it with a yellow trimed ****(my car is blue with yellow trim) I am converting vents to yellow and putting in yellow racing seats......I have tried to unscrew it but i have been un seccesful in that. I haven't turned to hard because i'm worried about braking something, is it glued on? does it not screw of? ANY suggestions would be appriciated!

don't worry about breaking it, all you have to do is turn it counter-clockwise. It's pretty tight so that your **** won't become loose easily after lots of driving

You should have an oval-shaped fitting below the **** that is actually a jam-nut. I forget what size wrench you need, but if you back that off (clockwise), the shift **** will then easily turn off.

The S4 is different from the later models. Don't just turn the **** off. Gently pull down the shift boot, and there should be a piece directly below the **** that helps hold the boot up, but is actually the jam nut. I checked, and the flats are 22 mm.
