How to dispose of old coolant?

Yeah.. The local autozone only takes oil.. what do you all do with your old coolant? Keep calling around until I find someone who will take it?

Some localities, they say just poor it down the drain. YUou need to check with the town first, though. It's just alcohol after all.

We have 'once a month hazmat collection' at the local landfill. Call there first.
Call the mayors office and ask one of the workers there if they know of any recyclers. They should be able to tell you.
Do not dump it down the drain/backyard whatever. Always try to recycle.
Its not just alcohol. Its toxic chemicals with toxic additives that have suspended metals in it from being used.
Some garages/serviceshops/dealers also recycle antifreeze. Use the phone book and call around. They might allow you to dump it in their tanks.

I agree w/ DeadRX7Conv. DO NOT pour coolant down the drain. If it can kill your dog, don't you think it will kill/harm other things too?

In Los Angeles, there are several recycling facilities which accept used motor oil, old car batteries, and coolant. Check for one near you.

Mark S, you need to recheck those localities that you know of. I have NEVER heard of any city/state which says that you can just pour it down the drain.

If you have a local Wal-Mart, they not only take used oil but used coolant as well........they do here in Tx.

Not a good Idea to dump it in the drain or ground. I'm sure you can get fined if caught....

Some states, like here in Michigan, requires by law that any place that does oil changes accept and dispose of oil, at no charge, from any citizen that changes thier own oil. It is my understanding that that applies to antifreeze as well.

Since many quick oil change businesses also do radiator flushes, I'd check with local oil change places to see if they will accept your antifreeze.

By the way, Ethylene Glycol is not simple alcohol. It is indeed toxic and does not chemically degrade anywhere near as rapidy as alcohol. Maybe survey folks with wells as their water source if they want their water supply contaminated with EG.

I feed the Neighbors Cats with mine .. only about 12 left now. I got one caught in my net the other nite Dumb SOB walked right into it (rottweiler food at that point). If they are crossing the road you can "spotlight" them with your highbeams they will sit there just long enough to get the front tire over them .... now here's a chalenge for ya Next time you swerve to hit one .. try to get the front and the rear to hit the same cat, I have only been able to do this once .. its alot trickier than it sounds.

There was a section on this in Car and driver not too long ago. I cant seem to find it right now but it was in Patrick Bedards column. He didnt know what to do with his coolant and when he contacted someone working with some enviromental agency they recommended letting it sit outside and evaporate? lol strange but thats what it said.

Do I? Hell i have almost killed myself trying once. I swerved at a quick *** little bastard one time .. I was detirmined though .. I was on the oposite side of the road .. left tires on some guys lawn .. right tires on the sidewalk .. doing 40+ in a residentual area. (P.S. residental areas are the best place to search them out ) and I look up right after I clipped the little SOB (he was not quick enough.. RX's are nible) And comming around the corner is a Big *** Ford F-550 .. I almost **** myself .. yanked the wheel the other way .. got back on my side of the road just in time and stopped to put a scratch under the left front

As much as I hate cats, and would like to run them over, I dont think I could. The only one I would run over is Schmiddles.

In a recent interview one of the engineers from Prestone said
to let it evaporate outside, where pets can't get to it.
In Las Vegas it took a day and a half to go away.

If I saw somebody intentionally run over a cat, they wouldn't live long enough to tell anybody.

Cat killing? My brother is the master, no PETA around...?

He went hunting one year and shot a deer and hung it up in his shed to drain/cure. He closed up the shed but some of the strays dug a hole under one of the side. He opened the door and 25 cats ran out and the deer was almost completely gone (he likes shooting the smaller deer, more tender). He was very pissed. Ill list some of the ways he killed them (he lived in a little speck of a town, official population was under 20, so no one ever noticed):

1. Woodchopping axe doubled as a guillotine
2. Simple baseball bat
3. (My favorite) Put one in a burlap sack and climbed the watertower a couple blocks away. Lets just say they dont land on their feet from 100 feet up.
4. He injected one with a few diluted NoDoz. He said it just laid there twitching and foaming at the mouth. This is the only one he took the axe to cause he felt sorry for it.

My uncle was a cat hater in his younger days too. His neighbor had a lot and theyd run under the fence. So send em back...over the fence (underhand toss, the tail apparently makes a nice handle). Hes think only one I know that got attacked by one so in revenge he doused it with gas and lit it on fire. He said it was cruel, but it was damn hilarious to see running down the street. That one survived.

Okay okay, Today is my 25th birthday and I was sitting around my office bored as **** at work today, thinking about what a great day for a nice ride it is. So I conjured up myself a little excitement/humor & added some fuel to the cat lover’s fire. I don’t intentionally try to kill cats. Don’t get me wrong I won’t slam on my breaks to avoid one, and risk getting my RX rear ended, but all the ones I have come by are smart enough to get out of the way. I am a dog lover and I DO dislike cats .. but not to the point of cruelty. Hope you all enjoyed my sick sense of humor
