how accurate are factory gauges?
i have the option of using an autometer oil pressure gauge or the factory gauge. the factory gauge works perfectly, but to hook up the autometer i will need to finde a sending unit. will the autometer be worth the hassle? are the factory gauges accurate at all?

Its been my experience that factory gauges are not very accurate. Sometimes ( not sure about FC's ) they take measurements from other sensors and just assume what a certain device should be doing. i.e. My friends old thunderbird turbo coupe said it was boosting 13 psi. We hooked up a boost gauge and could barely get 3

The factory oil pressure gauge is actually pretty good, especially in compartison with the boost gauge and water temp gauge. It's the sender that goes bad.
If you're getting it cheap, I'd go ahead and put the aftermarket one on for when your stocker goes south (because it will). I wouldn't run out and buy one, though, until I needed it. Your money's much better spent on a real water temp gauge.
