Hot Shifter
Ok i tried searching on this but found nothing on here. In my '88 vert, the shift handle gets really hot, really quick. Is this normal? The heat rises up through the top of my shifter boot. It sometimes heats the shifter stock so hot that its uncomfortable. I have no idea whats going on or why its doing that? Is this a bad thing or what? Gimme some help people, please! :[

there are a couple rubber boots that cover the shifter hole, just on top of the trans tunnel. you may need new ones. also you may want to check or swap your fluid in the trans as the shifters will get hot if there isnt enough fluid.

Check the sticky at the top of the forum and you can find the factory service manual. It will illustrate the shifter boot assembly so you can determine if what to do next.
Good Luck

thanks ill do that. and thats the way this one gets. if it wasnt for the fake wood shift know, i would get burned if i held my hand there too long. and actually my '86 bmw 325 has the same tranny set up but i never had any problems with it like this, although the shaft was much longer then the shaft in the Seven

ha ha ha. real funny. its late october. i dont see myself parking in sunlight too much anymore. although whooda thought that i'd buy a convertable and actually USE it in october :P. but yeah the shifter handle doesnt get hot, its the shaft. i looked at those rubber boots down inside and they do seem a bit worn down. ill wait till my shoft throw gets here though before i replace them.

The wife fabricated a shifter cover for me out of a thick gym sock. She cut off the cushioned toe part and sewed it to the elastic top part of the sock (basically eliminatine the middle part of the sock) Fits perfectly over my "T" handle metal shifter for those days when its too hot or too cold.
