Hood won't stay down.

I'm starting to loose faith in the Haynes manual... They don't even show a tear down/rebuild of a sun roof, anywho: I have this hood and whenever i close the hood it looks closed. But after driving at freeway speeds or maybe even around 25-40mph the hood pops up in the latch (as if i just pulled the hood release). I've checked the alignment and the latch and it works fine. Any ideas on what's causing this potentially dangerous situation?

try loosening all the bolts on the latch, pull it up as far as it will go, then retightening. also spray some lube in there (wd-40 or whatever)

Either the latch is no good anymore, or the cable is under stress and pulling on it. Most likely the first. it is pretty old after all.

pull it up? really? From what i was able to tell (once i put it under some good light) it looks like the latch hook stands about a quarter inch above the main assembly (Is that normal? i have no point of refrence for this car) so shouldn't i be trying to push it all the way down?... I'll go try it your way real quick and let you know.

The Hood has been fixed.

I took the latch off and jimmied it a little bit. From what I could tell the latch had been stuck in the cable release position. Hence why the air was lifting it up. So after increasing the play a little bit and pushing the latch up and down just to work the gunk out, i was able to securly latch the hood. I'm thinking for a more sure way of making it last longer get the gunk spray and de-gunk that stuff. then lube it up with some WD-40.

Thanks for everyones advice.
