HKS SSQV-style BOV's

What is the general consensus on the SSQV-style (NOT HKS, ebay wannabe's) BOV's? Do they work well? Is the extra $100+ justified for the HKS, or are there other aftermarket BOV's that I should look into. Just an example:
Ebay BOV

I got a TII engine that didnt have the BOV on it, and theres a turbo with a larger compressor-side (i dont know anything about the turbo, it was just what was bolted onto the side of the engine - not stock). I dont know if stock's an option or not, but i saw some of these for relatively cheap. I'm trying to come up with a way to route the vented air back into the intake... probably just a big piece of hose clamped over the outside of the BOV.

well, lets put it this way.... i purchased 2 of them for my car.... installed them.. but will be switching to turboxs's here shortly!

ok, the problem w/ mine is...
1. the c-clips were too big and didnt fit the mount.. so it had to be ground down, and still, it barely fit!
2. one of them is very loose, so id assume it wont hold boost pressure (im still breaking in my motor, so no boost for me yet)....

my lesson learned was, i should have just bought one true hks then deal w/ the hassle of 2 inferior ones

Ok, how about blitz BOV's? I am not planning on running a ton of boost, so i'm not sure the pull-type valve is necessary. is the Blitz valve a quality piece?

So you used the knock off brand or clone brand? Not a real HKS SSQV

Did you install it right? As we say in the computer tech industry "must be user error"

Modified mag bought a knok off BOV and decided that it's crap compared to the real thing, the materials and construction were both far inferior. Get the real thing, support the innovator, not the immitator.

of course I installed it right. Im no n00b to the import scene (1998 here). The fact that it has to pull against pressure to open is what killed it. Even when driving around, going to 0, then shifting into vacuum, they are hard to open..and since I have the stock airbox on my car, I couldnt hear the turbo chuffing. I pulled my intake tube off the other day to check it, and it had shaft play on all 3 axis. And I take care of my turbo cars...I always let them cool down before shutting it off, and I let them warm up too.

I go for functionality over sound. a DSM BOV will flow enough air to support a 60-1 turbo and not blow open at 17+psi. The next step up is a factory skyline GTR one...with a 1.5" inlet/outlet pipe, you can expect your turbo will see no surging.

Go look in turbo magazine a few years back...they did a test on like 12 different BOVS..the GTR, the DSM and the subaru (all of which are the same design more or less) had the best characteristics for a bov. The rest of them went down the list, the last one being the HKS one. Had multiple surges as the valve was opened.

Idl ike to hear more about the HKS BOV. I was planning on using one, mainly cause I like the sound alot more than any other BOV. Plus its probably one of the least used. Anybody else here have any input? Not to highjack the thread or anything

and hks ssqv's are probubly the most widely used bov... but they are a great product (the original, not the knock off)

I have the HKS BOV, and I've had no problems with it? How much boost are you running?

I was running about 13-14lbs. It would open under boost, but even when I backed out the screw to soften it up, under light load or 0 psi, it wouldnt open. I even made sure it wasnt broken, and it wasnt.

I have never been a fan of them for a while now. After seeing the charts of what the airflow looks like in one with all the mini compressor surges as it vents all the air out, id rather save my turbo. I had 3 of my customers who all had HKS ones, and they all needed turbos rebuilt by a years time. If you want one so bad, I will sell you mine, WITH the pipe.

What about the ones that came stock on the car? are they too restrictive (being made for 9 psi max)? how about blitz, apexi, or other brands?
