Exclamation Hit 14 psi today

I was commin off the ramp in 3rd, my rpm's were at like 3500 then i floored it and WWWHHHOOOOOSSSSHHHHHHHH
I watched the gauge and i hit 14 psi around 5 or 6 k I beleive (couldent watch both at same time)
I wasent going to try for more cuz im a little afraid of detonation, you know engine blowing up or somthing.
But godamn it was fun
Id like to know what dangers there are in boosting this high, what to watch out for and what i should get if my car has the capability of reaching this high a boost.
88 TII
3" dp
2.5" mid pipe
Single N1 exaust
intake
FCD
Walboro fuel pump
Gauges; boost, water temp
HKS timer

WHY WONT MY SIG WORK??!

At 14psi your stock injectors are probally totally maxed out, also your intake temps are probally through the roof with out a FMIC. I had almost the same mods about a year ago and I was pinging at those boost levels so I'd be a bit carful and keep a close ear for detonation.

FMIC = Front Mount InterCooler

To keep away from detonation there are many factors which can cause it. One, not enough fuel, Two, ignition advanced to far, Third, too high of intake temps. Those are the 3 biggies. But by far the easiest way to avoid it all together is to keep the boost down.

1fastT2 is right. a Front Mount intercooler will help the temps stay down. Your injectors are way over maxed out, so some 720cc secondary injectors will help your fuel delivery. You can buy them from the rx7store. They drop into your stock fuel rail. You'll need them. 14psi is too high for stock injectors.

Id seriously suggest getting some injectors and a FMIC. Your stock intercooler looses efficiency past 10-12 psi.

please lower your boost before you blow your engine... a few more times and it will. put your stock intake back on.

you will hit even more boost in 4th.

wow well i only wanted to try it once to see cuz the previous owner told me he hit 14 psi and i didnet believe him so yeah i will chill out now. I normally dont boost like that i keep off of it mostly actually so its generaly not a concern.
So it looks like im going to have to spend some money if i ever want to see that kind of boost again considering that one mod leads to the next and so on and so on...

You wanna know something funny? Ok well i have intake, full exhaust, and some other stuff...... But getting on the interstate ill floor it, and the boost guage will climb past 1bar with ease, The a/f guage still shows a safe mixture and the egt guage climbs but slowly, and i have no fuel mods!! The only thing that i have done to the car is swap in a different set of secondaries, witch i think are different ohm rated (later model) and this does this, Keep in mind its only for a few short seconds, but damn the car doesnt even run lean, a 1bar with stock fuel pump,

I know this is crazy so dont post some reponse to this that i already know.

Why do high intake temps cause pinging? I thought the only thing that caused pinging was not enough fuel in the air/fuel mixture.

well the higher the intake temps, the higher the EGT's will be. Cold air in = hot air out. Hot air in = really hot air out. Compressing air can heat it up quite a bit. Once the EGT's get high enough, presto, you have pre-ignition.

14psi on 550's? Your just lucky you didn't blow that motor...Take it down to 11-12 max with 550's...Plus if there old and never cleaned who knows how efficient they work.....14psi feels nice, but it isn't worth the risk, and the cars obviously run waaaaay better in these cooler conditions....Be careful!

I would suggest upgrading to atleast 720cc secondaries and a Greddy Frount Mount Intercooler. Rx7store.net has them on sale right now...

Thankfully you have the better fuel pump...but you defiently need bigger injectors. In fact I noticed a slight increase in HP when I upgraded mine to 720cc.

My Greddy Frount Mount is being installed right now and should be ready tonight!

BTW my sig does not work either...maybe you have to have more post for it to come up?

heh I've had creep up to a bar with just the walbro before I decided the stock wastegate size wasn't working. It pulled hard as hell, but then I saw what the boost guage was at, pushed in clutch instantly coasted to the side of the road and **** in my pants. I don't like playing with fire

BTW for your sig to work you ahve to click the post reply button then check the option for your sig to appear. It doesn't do it automatically on this forum, well at least not for me.
