high rpm horsepower problem
86 gxl when revving up past 3800 or so the car falls flat on its face and revs very slowly. Is this the same as the 3800 rpm hesitation in the faq? How do you testo see if your 5th/6th ports are working correctly? Is Bg 44k the preferred fuel injector cleaner for fc's? Any ideas would be a big help right now.

No fuel injector cleaner will do anything big.

I remember I could barely hit 100 when my ports weren't working.
A way to see if they are working would be get a vac/pressure guage and T it into the air line which comes from the cat to the ACV area.
You need about 2-3 psi to open them
Another thing to do is push the little rods down and see if they move at all. I used some lithium grease on the rods and pushed them in and out a bit to work the grease in. Then wiped the excess grease away.

I know I am going to sound really stupid but what is the acv? So should I start with the lithium grease and go from there? What about the grounding/re-grounding? Has anyone had success with this before. Which wires are the most likely to be causing this failure? I am sorry I am asking so many questions but I really can't afford to pay a mechanic to do this and am not that good at car stuff yet. I appreciate everyone's help. I checked the plugs on the seconday injectors and they seemed tight. One more thing that might help is that when I do rev it past 3800 it revs so slowly by 5500 that I am scared to even take it that far. I can barely hit 80 right now. First, just a little note, you posted 18 times with the same message. Alot of the times this server is slow, becuase well there are hundreds of people using it. So when you push "Submit Reply" please only do it once, instead of 17 times.

Now for your car troubles: I would definately if you have some free time clean up every ground you can see. Definatly check the one which runs from your battery to I think its the bell housing area, or a lower part of the engine. If you follow it you will see it... Theres some otheres which go to the firewall..
Two I can think of off the top of my head one goes from the upper intake manafold to the firewall (at the top end near the windshield wipers) it will have a little white connector... at least mine did. Another is near your trailing coil, which is the one closest to the firewall again.. near the master brake and the clutch filler areas. There was a ground going into the shock tower...
I will see if I can find a thread with more grounds to help you out. It can only help, cant hurt to clean them up.

ACV is Air Control Valve. It routes the airpump air into the cat or into a silencer or manifold or something like that.
Ignore the shift light. It's a POS. Useles unless you want to shift under 4k every single time.
Also it will take you a while to hit 80 if you do shift low duh! Our power band goes to 6.5k.
That's where the fun is!
The lithium grease thing will take you like 5 minutes. Don't take your car to a mechanic. Most don't know our cars and will just end up breaking something.
Grounding isn't a huge problem on NA's but you can give it a try later on.

Man sorry about that. teaches me to be impatient. Ok so the steps that I should take are;
1. use lithium grease on 5th/6th port actuator rods.
Correct me if I am wrong but these are near the exhaust manifold and look kind of like bells and have one rod coming out of each and vacuum lines attached to them?
2. use vacuum guage and check to see if I have 2-3 psi of pressure in the vacuum line that runs from the cat to the acv area. Should it have that pressure right at 3800 rpm? Can you just use a regular vacuum tee and cut the line?
3. If that doesn't work try cleaning/re-grounding. Following the procedures in the link.
If this still does not help what would be the next step?
I really don't want to pull the injectors as this is my only mode of transportation right now and I am severely low on cash. Sorry again for the re-post's I certainly feel like a jack ***.
