High independence to low independence injectors

I have read some postings about people with high independence injectors using resistors to allow the use of low independence injectors. I have also read that the only difference between the two different types of EFI setups is a resistor box in the engine compartment. What is true and what is bs?

im still reasearching this one and have not had much luck..the resistor boxes are only supposed to be for the low impedance inj. which the high was supposed to start at 87.5-92 but my sister has a 89 vert and it has a resistor box???????

Well, the connector ends on the injectors themselves are different also.

Other than that, you can interchange them. Case in point, I have a 88 T2 10th Anniv and it had high impedence injectors. I bought a new engine harness (88's are gone, so I got an 87) and it had the resistor block connector and the injector connectors didn't match my stock injectors. So I replaced the injectors with the low impedence injectors from a J-Spec motor I bought of the same year, and added the resistor block to the connector on the new harness. Works just fine with the stock ecu and everything else.

Hope this helps,

So in theory you should be able to just install the resistor box and then would be capable of running low independence injectors?

Yes. It is helpful if the harness has the connector for it though. Otherwise, I think ReTed's site had a write up on how to build your own resistor block. May want to check Dave Gibson's site also www.fc3s.org.
