Exclamation Hey should i paint this car

I just got a 1988 GTU yesterday and it's cleaner then any other i've ever seen and its fully stock; all original parts and condition. I mean whoever owned it never drove it at all. There are parts on this car i promise you won''t find on any other of these models, I promise you. But, its so special because it's all original and in such good condition. But, i don't like the color. So, should I paint it or keep it in its orignal form because I have come to learn its more exclusive to have a orignal looking rx7 with all its parts over a supered up one?

Paint it if you want to.... It's what you want to do... The car will never be worth a ton of money so do wahtever you want to do.....

The GTU were not that rare at all, they were a pretty base model in 1988.. What parts does it have that make it so special, especially if it is orig.. Not being a jerk, I am just curious..

yeah like it has the trunk cover, the little triangles on the dashboard are still there and not a single crack on the dash witht the dust cover that came with it. you know the little things you don't see on these cars anymore

AH.. Well If it were me which it isn't I would just save up and get a REALLY NICE paintjob, where they do all the jams, under the hood ect... Like I stated before the value of these cars will not skyrocket in my lifetime so live a little and enjoy your car.

The dash came with a dust cover? Seems aftermarket.

There are parts on this car i promise you won''t find on any other of these models, I promise you
So what's on there that makes it so special?

personally there is no argument about the car's originality in regards to its value if you are considering painting the car.

The only argument can be to keep the original paint if it is taht much of a clean original car.

If you are looking to keep the car for the purpose of having an original - well kept car - I wouldn't paint it....why do half the people who get paint jobs get them? because the body has been beat down...(mostly)

but do whatever you like its your car....

I can almost 100% for sure say that if you pull off the lil rubber moldings on the side you'll find rust and maybe a lil hole or two.

BTW 88GTU had the turbo suspension, sport seats, areo package, 4 piston brakes, and a couple other things i cant remember right off the bat. Ive had three so far. Nothing special really.

the car is clean.

If you are looking to keep it orginal but still dead set on spending the bucks on a good paint job - do not change the colour...

Because unless you spend a tonne.....I would charge $8,000..... to do a FULL repaint (engine bay, jambs, re-do the floor with bedliner) then you are going to have a car that is clean, but looks like its had a paint job to cover up some nasties.

IMHO - take care of the paint thats on it and drive the thing

Mine is red.

Macshot, that is one clean s4! Do what you want to it, it was mentioned earlier that these cars really wont go up in price much, if at all during our lives. I agree, keep it clean and save up for a really nice paint job.

I figured it isnt gonna be worth anything. So I have been prepping mine for paint. And also changing everything to the way I like it. Here is what its gonna look like when its done(sorry forgot to chop the wing in there, and the mirrors)

And yes those are nismo wheels. Admit it theyre gonna look good.

I would say keep it that way. These cars are not worth much right now, because they are a dime a dozen, and they sold alot of them.

Beautiful car by the way, and I would keep it pretty much stock, just change a few things that mazda did not do to well. Do a nice catback, header, a few suspension things, but nothing to crazy. And keep the original stuff if you can manage to.

I think that that paint is pretty much perfect and you should not waste your money or the stock paint by throwing it away. To do a proper change of color paint job the engine/interrior, should all be removed - this full paint job would cost several thousands of dolalrs. Your car looks great stock.

If you want another color go buy one of the million that have rust on the sunroof and paint fade all over.
