I am sure you can. A really nice one is a GN engine. I've seen pics of RB26's in there too. The skys the limit, just remember the car came with a rotary and it's always the easiest way to go.

Unless its a large 6 cylinder then its not that big of a difference in HP. I mean the rotary comes with 146-160 hp with n/a motors so swapping a V6 would make more power i guess. If I was ever putting another motor in my car it would be a 350.

Imagine a Syclone/Typhoon drivetrain swap. It would be alot of fabrication, but it would be worth it. A 300+HP turbo 4.3 with AWD in an RX chassis wpuld do wonders.

The VG30t(dett) and the turbo 4.3 are worthy. Both bullet proof and capable of producing high HP/TRQ figures.
The GN motor is so well suited for the FC though...
One thought though..... would the tranny shift into overdrive during a gtr mile run....? I know the GN rear has alot taller gears(3.24?) than the RX7 rears(3.90/4.10).

Typhoon/Cyclone??? I don't think that's worth it just because of the drivetrain mods you'd need. Converting an Rx7 to AWD? You'd have to lift it, and then you'd loose handling from that, even though the AWD probably would spread the weight out.

becuase that's what I wanted to do, and I don't want a ton of people to have the same swap if I decide to do it It's gonna be a couple years before I can get financially ready for it though, so maybe if more people try, I'll have better odds of getting it right the first time.

4.3 L chevy V-6 is only a small weight savings compared to a chevy v-8, less than 30 lbs difference.
No really good cylinder heads are available for the 4.3
The crankshaft is a weak design, the connecting rods are not really very good.
The basic design is not very good for vibration control. (new engines have a balance shaft in the valley to help with this problem)
I have a 350, 6-speed in my car, it fit with very little effort, I made my own engine mounts & trans mounts instead of buying the Granny's kit.
If I had to do it again I would find a 4.6L 32 Valve Cobra Mustang engine & manual trans.

i would never put a piston engine in an RX-7. but if you must, keep it japanese. i've seen a few different engines put into 7s in japan, RB26DETT, 2JZGTE, 3SGTE, and i think one SR20DET. but i say stick with rotary. the rotary engine design makes more HP per litre than any other engine design i **** you not. if you are thinking about going to all the trouble of putting one of those engies into your car then why not have a custom rotary engine made? a good rotary shop can build you a custom engine designed to your specs. rotary engines are used for alot of things in racing, so just tell them about how much torque/hp you would like, how big, and whether it'll be NA or turbo. they can work with you from there.

I have been seriously considering a GN drivetrain swap into a 1st gen. There is a company that makes chevy 10 bolt rears that will bolt right up to the 1st gen, but a 9 inch is much more desirable. I bet I could do it with a 5000 dollar budget, including the car.
