help wont start
so my fc will start in the cold no sweat. but like most fcs mine wont hot start (after short trips). so with that being said the previous owner of the car had a toggle switch installed from the egi comp in the fuse box, routed in the car. I dont know what this necessarily did but basically i used it while cranking the car to get it started. Is this switch just like a fuel cut switch? or rather same theory? or should i install the fuel cut switch at the fuel pump to help me deal with flooding issues that messes with my car. When i start the car the first time of the day i smell alot of fumes. is this normal for any fc? or is it because something is going extremely wrong with my car? I just want my car to start up everytime i ask it to. but until then its just been a weekend-one-time-drive type of thing. Im trying to get this thing back on the damn road so i need all of your guys help please. Im also having trouble with my tranny, whenever i shift it doesnt feel smooth. i have alot of trouble shifting it into second gear, i cant go smoothly down the wall, i have to make a sort of backwards C type movement in order for it to go into second. LOL DAMN i know this is alot so bear with me folks. This is just tip of the iceberg when it comes with things i need to do to my fc.

Hot start problems can be anything from leaking fuel injectors to an engine gradually losing compression and nearing rebuild time. The fuel cut switch is a popular band-aid solution for leaking injectors and can be quite useful. Much has been written on this subject, so you might want to do a search.
As for the fuel smell, to some extent this is normal for an NA FC because they tend to run quite rich and some unburned fuel is common. However, you should inspect your pulsation damper and make sure it isn't leaking since this can lead to a fire. Do another search on this; it is important to sort out.
As for the shift issues, I would bet this is eliminated when you replace your clutch hydraulics as was suggested in your other thread. Problems with slotting it into gear can be caused by bad shifter bushings. How recently were yours replaced? If you're still having shift quality issues, you should check the level of gear oil in your tranny and might want to consider switching to a quality synthetic gear oil like Redline, Royal Purple, AmsOil, etc.

thanks daviddeep, ill be sure to look into things that u suggested. btw i have a 10ae so does that mean the smelly start up is bad? and as for my switch thats connected to the EGI COMP, what does that do in theory? is it better if i do the switch at the fuel pump or is it virtually the same???
