Question Help!!! What could have occured to cause this.

I'm my way home on the highway i was cruisin on 5th gear till i got to a hill, so i down shifted and my car would go from 3k to 4k with no prob, but then it would start to wobble and struggle badly to climb past 4k. So i take it out of gear and rev the engine and it reved with no problem to 8k. I noticed it was doing this only on 4th and 5th gear. Another thing i notice was when i stopped at the toll, it was idleing rough going from 500 to 800 back and forth, but it wouldn't stall. Its an 88 N/A. Could something have got loose on the engine bay on my way home??? Please help. Thanks

Sounds like it's time to change your fuel filter and probably fuel pump too... My old first gen used to do the same thing going up hills.

Driving along and the car would start to studder as it went faster and faster. I pull up to my driveway, and i hear a crackling sound. I pop up the hood and i see the right side leading sparkplug sparking like a bastard. The head of the spark plug was surrounded by sparks. Could it be that this spark plug is dead, or could something else be wrong. The spark wire is like new and looks fine. Hopefully it's just the spark plug. Hope someone knows. Thx

When the engine is under heavier load, I THINK the resistance across the wire gets greater (or something like that).. at any rate, the greater the load on the engine, the more likely plug wires (and associated items) are to ground themselves and arc, causing misfiring and the like.

At least that's what happened on my Civic when Raptor13X went from 5th to 2nd @ 75 mph and revved it up to 9500 RPM. The engine went up and the chassis went down, cutting into a plug wire just enough that it'd arc occasionally. It would only arc while the engine was under load, not while the clutch was in or out of gear.
