Help! Tach and coil issue

A little while ago I had some major hesitation problems with my 87 NA. With the way my tach was acting it was suggested I jump my coils with their bullet connectors to run the tach off the other coil. After running a few days with my coils jumped I noticed no difference so I removed the jumper wire and now my tach is dead. My tach only works if my coils are jumped now... And now if I'm idling for over 1-2 minutes my car will start beeping at me until I move like 3-4 feet. Lol

The trailing coil normally runs the tach so you need to check that coil and its associated wiring.

I'd check your coolant on that Beeping issue.
As far as the Coil/tach issue have you tried new plugs and wires to see if that would make any difference?.
I had fouled trailings that would cause my tach to go Bonkers.

My car runs perfectly fine. The plugs are newer NGK's and the wires are brand new NGK. My ignition system should be fine. Except after satch recommended I try jumping my coils and now it only works if they are jumped

I was having intermittent trailing coil failure. When i was overhauling my car I thoroughly cleaned the ground/mounting points and have not had a problem since.

new parts don't guarantee that they function, remember that.

I think I'm being misunderstood. My car works perfectly fine with or without the coils being jumped. I've removed the coils and thoroughly cleaned all contact points and checked all connections.

My tach was working perfectly fine until I jumped my coils. Now my tach only works while they are jumped. Car runs either way. No hesitations or hiccups.

And as long as the tach works accurately, what does it matter if there is a jumper in place?

the trailings are likely not firing, which is why when it is jumped it works ok.

BECAUSE the leading coil is feeding the tach signal through the trailing coil which is non functional.

the car will still run fine without the trailing coil, so it running fine means nothing to me.

test your trailing wires with a timing light and i suspect there is nothing coming out of them.

The cause of that hesitation and erratic tach was a loose/dirty ECU ground. Ever since I fixed That ground my car has been 100%. Only difference now is my coils need to be jumped for my tach to even move.

I'll test my trailing wires with a timing light and let you know.

BTW, wouldn't there be a performance loss if you weren't running with a trailing coil?

Trailing coil burns off the excess fuel left by the leading coil ignition so if your leading coil ignition does its job you would hardly notice the difference if the trailing coil was completely not working.

Now that I think about it, my exhaust does smell more rich than any of my past RX-7's..

I need to buy a new timing light.
