help! sputtering and extreme power loss and a few Q's

Hi everyone. ok this is gonna be a long info story with lots of questions along the way so here we go. First off im new to the rx7 scene. ive had camaros and mustangs and a lightning here and there but that it. Recently i bought a 88 convertible, all stock, with 120,000 miles, it had been sitting in a garage for 5-6 years. i bought it and brought it home and it runs fine, idle wise, but here are the symptoms im getting. The car is manual btw. So everything seems normal under full throttle up until aroound 4,000 rpm, then it seems like the car is sputtering really really bad, it loses almost all power, its almost as if the power has been reduced to half. this sputtering continues all the way up to redline, and its in every gear. if i dont go WOT and slowly bring up the rpms its fine, but as son as i mash it the power is gne and the sputtering starts. I have a cmplete 89 s5 i can use for parts, if they can be swapped over, which is my main concern. My first thought was a dirty fuel filter, but it seems like its moe than that. I also had a question about what mechanical parts i could swap from my s5 onto the vert. im trying to gain a few horses, but not trying to do a full motor swap. Sorry for rambling on. Please give me your input! im at wits end here! THANKS GUYS!
matt

Possibilities:

-Bad TPS
-Fuel filter
-Injectors
-spark plugs

Sounds like you car might be starving for gas and cutting in and out. You said it sat for 5-6 yrs. This will make gas go bad and clog filters. The plugs might be fouled and/or injectors might need to be cleaned. Unfortunately not many of your S5 mechanical parts will swap over to your 88.

Another thing you might wanna try, is checking your MAF and see if it works ok. If your car idles fine and runs strong to 4K its a sign of fuel issues. The secondaries open up around 3500-3600 RPMs and at 4000 you're maxing the fuel input under full throttle causing the car to chock and sputter (bad for motor BTW)

You should change all the above anyway for safety precautions. Full tune up including all fluids.

GOOD luck!!!
