Unhappy Help needed ASAP

Alright about a week ago I was driving to my girlfriends house and my car was running fine and everything...wait right before that i had a new radio installed and they had to redo the speaker wires and all those wires back there because the guy that had the car before me decided to do it himself and you couldnt tell what wire went to what before. I dont know if this would have anything to do with it at all just putting it out there because it migh for some reason have something to do with it...anyways back to the story. I drove there and her house is probably 16-20 miles away from my house and like i said before i left the car was running perfectly i let it fully warm up and everything. Soo I am driving on the highway and am almost there and i downshift from 5th to 4th doing about 60 to pass a car....at this point things are still ok. I come up to the exit and exit then come to a stop sign and the car is acting all weird...the idle is very rough and it seems like the car wants to die but the tach says the idle is ok..it was moving between about 700 and 800 rpm...i drive there and the exhaust tone totally changed had a loss of power...i get there and my oil was kinda low but not all gone and it is a little hotter than usual under the hood. i checked the spark plug wires right away and one of them was pretty jacked up soo i put more oil in chnged the wires and have now changed the plugs also and fixed an exhaust leak (bought new gaskets and put then on soo its fixed for the most part anyways) and thats all i have really done soo far i havent really driven the car since. When i started it on colder mornings there would be a little white smoke coming out of the exhaust not enough to make me think anything was wrong though. Any help would be appreciated. Also my father changed my clutch for me like 2 months ago and right where the bell housing meets the engine there is a ground wire of some sort that is not hooked up and i cannot figure out where it goes...maybe this could be part of the problem also? Oh yea by the way I have a 87 N/A 5speed mods are cone filter custom y-pipe with cheap mufflers, gutted cats...all except the main and a little breather filter for the air pump...Thanks in advance for any help I get.

That ground wire goes from the bellhousing to a bolt on the passenger side firewall. Hook it back up and see if your problem is solved, It is a pretty important ground, and Ive heard alot of problems coming from it being disconnected.

I dont know if the ground will fix "your" problem but deffinitly get it grounded. Otherwise you may end up with more problems.

Good luck

If the problem continues get a compression check done. It sounds kind like a blown apex seal. But do reconnect that ground wire.
