HELP!!! Need to identify what i got myself into!

So two weeks ago i came accross a steal, everything i need to convert my 90gxl to a turbo II. The guy bought a 90 gxl that was converted to a T2, he was told that it was given a s5 t2 motor, tranny, and everything.

I looked at the car and took it for a quick spin. Offered to take all the turbo stuff off his hands for a very low price. this weekend I pulled the engine and heres what I came accross....(Its kind of Scary)

S5 T2 tranny (I know its s5 because of the pan case and the tranny mount design)

S4 turbo (flange pattern of course gave it away)

S5 intake manifold (i assume because it has 2 tps sensors)

N370 computer/ maf/ & map

s5 N/A injectors!!! yea 460cc....(red/oval)

at this point I didnt know what else to think. I drove the car and it felt pretty good, it wouldnt idle but i thought it was because of everything being deleted (air control, egr, etc..). so how did it run on 460s? I took the car to redline a few times and it felt fine no stumble or hesitation, and no detonation.

So I'm kind of stuck at this point. I guess my question is what else can i identify? is there a way to see if it is a s4/s5 t2 with out pulling anything apart?

Any suggestions would help me out alot.

Thanks

Well, these do run rich, and since it sounds like you have vacuum leaks that may actually be why it hasn't blown under boost. That's my take on it. For the love of rotary, man, please take this car from his supervision and remedy the problems. If it runs ok as it is, it should run awesome with the right parts in place.

with 460s in there I wouldn't push the car very hard until that gets fixed. It's getting less fuel all across the map which will soon result in a blown motor.

One thing to look for is whether it has electric or mechanical OMP on front cover. But that doesn't necessarily mean the short block is all S4 or S5. If it has an S5 throttle body & N370 ecu, it's probably running an electric OMP or it's gone altogether.

There a bunch of other small differences, but I can't remember them right now, heh. Search will turn them up.

I plan on goin through the whole thing and building the engine a little. as for the injectors, well i already have a set of 550s. i just wonder how long that motor has been running with those 460s

if i pull the turbo and the manifold off the engine, would i be able to tell if it has the s4/s5 rotors inside?

The omp is electric...

the only posibly visibule diff throught he exhuast port is that the bathtub ont he rotor is machined on an s5 vs cast on s4, ( s4 will be rougher looking)

it might be carbon covered tho so it would be hard to tell...

then another thing if u ever remove the flywheel it will have a nxxx number on it, depending on that will tell u if its s4 or s5 since u must use same series to keep engine balanced.
