help with my car please??
hey guys...i recently just bought a 1986 RX7 and i have major problems with it...when i try to start the engiene...i can hear it trying to start and the fan spins. but no progress...from what i can tell...there is a leak with the coolant next to the engiene from the right side looking down on it from the front..and ive asked a few people to take a look at it...the problems they said it is probably the coolant leakage or my head gasket is messed up....any solutions?? without going to buy a new engine block?

head gasket? lol
anyways, back on subject... be specific when you are asking questions about your car because the engines vary. if it is a T2 check to see if it is leaking from the turbo coolant inlet tube on the side of the intake manifold, then check to be sure the heater hose from the back of the water pump housing is not leaking nor the water pump itself.
don't drive the car until you get all coolant leaks fixed.

The coolant leak is probably just a hose. Check all of you hoses and make sure that none are leaking... however, a leak shouldnt keep the car from turning on. Try checking the oil and make sure that it doesnt look foamy or milky. if it does then you coolant seals are frigged and its time to rebuild. otherwise, the only thing that car needs to turn on is air, gas, and spark. check all three. Also, rx7's dont have head gaskets, they have apex seals for the rotors. read the stickies and learn a little bit about the car you own, it is actually interesting... p.s.-- take it from me, you want to learn all you can about a car that you own becuase when you have a problem with it, unless you have some really dedicated friends or family, you will have to either fix the problem yourself or pay someone a hell of alot of money....

How long have you owned the car? did you buy it or was it given to you? either way, when you recieve any used rotary you should do a compression test to see what kind of condition the motor is in... a compression test wouldnt hurt. if your motor has too low compression it wont turn on... hence, the three main things that keep almost and engine from turning on is either air, fuel, or spark...

first check your battery, check you coils for spark, also make sure that your spark plugs arent burnt out or dirty, check your fuel pressure, and make sure that your mass air is plugged in.

i owned the car for about two days...well...when i mean kinda turns on..it wonts to turn on but it cant...so it turns over making my starter fine..and some other possibilities ive discovered just asking some friends..they said to check my battery and alternator...when you say fuel meaning gas...im sure there is at least somewhat a pint or so in it..if not ill buy a damn gallon and get it in there..battery...i can go get it recharged..but i dont know how to check my coils for spark...

It might be flooded too.
Go open the hood, yank the fuse box cover located on the drivers side strut tower right next to the battery.
Pull the 30amp EGI fuse (fuse closest to the engine) and crank the car over for 10+seconds)
Replace the fuse and cover, now try starting the car.
If that dosent help, then make sure theres gas in the car. To check for spark, just pull the plug, (plug it back into the wire) rest it on the strut tower, have a friend crank the car, and watch if the plug sparks.

from reading your posts, no offense, but you need to find a decent rotary mechanic in your area. check your area board to see if you can find any that can take a look at the car, if you have no experience then it would probably be best to have a professional look at it.
if you have the time and patience you can read over the forums and gain the general knowledge to fix your own car but that takes some time.
do not start the car for short periods or it can and will flood out and be a pain to restart, it is a good idea to get some knowledge about a rotary if you plan on driving one, reading the forums over to get the basics of how they operate is a good start.

Yea, as Karack says, gain some knowledge. The best way to do this in the beginning is to either go out and purchase a service manual or download one. In these it talks about the most common symptoms rotaries have and how to trouble shoot them. The only way to learn is to get you hands diry.

Find the link to download the Factory Service Manual. Go to howstuffworks.com and look up the rotary engine, this is the best place to start, we're all noobies at some point you just need to get on the right track if you plan on keeping this car and doing work yourself.

if you want to chek if its getting spark take one of the spark plug wires off from the spark plug its self not the coil pack then put a screw driver into the end of the wire and put the metal part of the screw driver near a piece of metal like the strut tower or something dont let it touch it just barely over with a lil gap and tell some one to crank it a couple times dont touch the metal or you'll get a a wake up call from mr. electric. but do that to all the plug wires and if it spark between the metal the then you know thats not the problem, just mty lil 2cents
