Help Me with MY ExhausT!! PLZ! :)
Simple question. If i was to redo my whole exhaust, should i do a straight pipe from the header and back to mufflers, or should i do a straight pipe from the cat and back??? The GReddy Power extreme cat-back system "http://www.rx7.com/cgi-local/2catalog.cgi?cat=11&part=130" is a 60mm piping flared to a 80mm piping. If i get custom piping would that be a way to go????? Also whats the difference between having a dual or single exhaust??? Thanks.

A few things to consider before you do anything:
1)What kind of emissions laws are in your state? No emissions? Strict emissions?
2)What kind of performance upgrade are you looking for? Great acceleration but lower top end, higher top end but weaker acceleration?
3)How much you wanna spend?
4)How loud you want your car to be?
There are a few more but I'm lazy right now and i don't want to make this post any longer than it has to be. I'll just tell you what I got and the reasoning behind it.
My car is an 88 GXL btw.
Quick explaination of your last question. Dual and single exhaust IMO almost makes no difference IF you're running from a 2 to 1 to 2 *dual* or 2 to 1 to 1 *single*. You're still creating virtually the same back pressure I believe, either way because you're running to the same flange from the header. So IMO I think it's cosmetics. HOWEVER, if you're running a straight pipe, 2 to 2 to 2, then you'll get the highest HP gain. ANYWAYS, here's my setup:
Racing Beat Headers
Racing Beat Presilencer
HKS Catback Exhaust
It's a 2 to 1 to 2 setup. I was given the option of having a 2 to 2 to 2 setup for a little bit more money and it'll give me about 1.5 times more HP but the thing was, I'd lose low end torque for acceleration. Since this is my commuter car + weekender car, I needed something a little more streetable. The extra 15-20 HP would've been nice but I think streetability is more important FOR ME. *Anyways, I'm installing a turbo on the car for the winter so i don't think I'll have that much trouble after that* ^_- What the presilencer does is pretty much a straight pipe but it has some designs on it to silence the sound a bit since on NA cars, after you put in a complete exahust kit, it gets DANG loud. With the presilencer I already have trouble hearing sometimes, I can only imagine how much louder it'll get without it.
Well hopefully this'll help you out in selecting what you want out of your exhaust system. If you have anymore questions about anything, feel free to contact me via PM or just post!
Peace,
AJ ^_^
