help me get rid of my rust

You have to cut out the offending metal, and do make sure you have all the rust, you'll have to sand away the paint around that area.
You can replace the quarter panel, but a good body shop can cut the offending rusted sections out and weld in new patches (which has been done with my car).
DON'T use BONDO to patch up rust holes or to form a new panel. Use steel, welded in place, then use BONDO in VERY LIGHT COATs to smooth out the surface.
In about two weeks, my car is going to be done and the repairs to the body include the very thing you're asking about. I'll provide pics and a summary when it's done (at least the body).

If the rust isn't that bad yet, you should check out www.magnetpaints.com look into the chassis saver paint. It can be painted right over rust and is almost as tough as powder coat. It may save you costley body work.

Another good one for small rust spots is POR 15 paint, its kind of like a better rustoleum. I had a small spot on inner wheelwell works great so far for this type of problem. web site is por15.com

That POR stuff is a rip off. I used it a few years ago helping a friend restore a VW. They get almost $100 for a gallon! I bought the magnet Chassis stuff this past spring for 30 bucks less per gallon and it worked nicer. They seem to make some great products if you need industrial paints for trucks and stuff
