Help me find a new daily driver...

I'm going off to college next year and as of right now I have no car. I want dependable transportation. I can fix my T2, or keep the t2 in the garage for a few years and buy another car. What do you guys suggest, is the t2 dependable enough to take to college?? I was considering: civic, accord, integra, 240sx, mx-6, celica, or perhaps an N/A. Basically I want the most dependable, and stylish transportation for about $6000. Something that gets badass gas mileage and can endure some abuse. What do you guys think?

You can get an Integra GS-R for around $6000 and you won't suffer (as much) from the "I miss speed" syndrome, cause they're fairly quick.

Or you could get an Accord, or Civic.. I spent $3000 on my '92 Civic EX with 95k miles on it, which was fairly cheap, that's a year ago, so you could probably do the same for even less.. or get an Accord.. basically if it's a "beater-ish" daily driver, get a Honda, cause you can beat the crap out of 'em, and they'll save you $$ over time, cause you don't have to dump huge amounts of money into it, usually just basic maintenance stuff.

240. If you care about it being fast, just turbo. sr20det swap will make you really fast, but fairly bad gas mileage

What about like a 1991-1993 Eclipse GSX, you can get a good condition one for around 4k, they are fast, reliable in bad driving conditions b/c of the AWD and get around 24miles to the gallon. Sounds good to me.

I agree a s5 na should be a great daily driver and turn a lot of heads plus its REAR WHEEL drive!

But he'll probably get better gas mileage with an integra.

I would definitely recommend an MX-6 or a Probe GT. They're quick, good looking cars. I get decent gas mileage with my PGT, and they're fairly reliable critters, too, all things considered. Common problems you'll encounter with them depends on what year it is and how many miles are on it.

Overall though, they're very fun cars

Definitely, I could never drive a front wheel drive car, it just screams econo-car! Well maybe not for all FWD cars but still, I will never buy a FWD. Rear wheel drive is so much more fun! I say the NA or 240

OR a Starion/Conquest, I have one and that 2.6 turbo never dies! Plus it is by no means slow (around 180hp) so it could take out the Integra, and its RWD of course

240. If you want major performance (straightline and handling) do an SR swap. for the purpose of this post, lets talk about an S13 SR (2500~~), and an S13 240 (a good one is 4k).
Turn the boost up, catback exhaust, and bigger injectors, and there ya go, 250+ hp, and ~50/50 weight distribution. but ya gotta spend 7k, maby a little more. but its a little faster than the other cars on the list.

If U want dependability AND good gas mileage; may I suggest a Saturn... Not near as fast Or stylish as the other suggestions; but you have your T2 for that... Plus, it will be a lot gentler on the insurance end ... also the plastic body panels will hold-up to college abuse better than the others...

My wife's car is an 86 Saturn SC2 w/ 150,000+ miles and never one lick of a problem... We still get around 40 mpg out of it ,too...

I was gunna mention the saturn

Well I got my 90 toyo camry for $400. It takes me everywhere I need to go and is in pretty decent shape. No major problems at all and starts up everytime. Gives me around 30mpg too It not fast at all but I know I always got a ryde. My 7 is still sitting waiting for my income tax return to get here

DO NOT get an RX-7... motors blow with little warning... even on N/As. My vote would go to the 240SX. Basically Nissan builds awesome bulletproof motors, and the rest of the car holds up too. Also the Integra GS-R isn't a bad choice and would be fairly quick.

cant believe nowone has mentioned a miata. The 1.6 litre gets up to 32 MPG and runs a 16.6 in the quarter
or pretty close. It handles just as good as a 7 if not slightly better and is convertable. Also if ur insicure u can put on a body kit from erbani....I have been looking into the 90-93 models and the average price is 4000 bucks dealer or cheaper from private seller, usually around 3000 or less and these engines often go over 200,000 miles before rebuild. One hit 300,000 on original engine that I heard of on the forum.

GS-R. I'm telling you, I had a '96 GS-R with leather, and it was sweet. Plus it's got a "luxury" car maker's name on it, if you're into that.. maybe some stupid chick would like it, I dunno..

But seriously, get an Integra GS-R, you won't be sorry.

Oh yeah, PLUS if the previous owner hadn't had it done, you PROBABLY get a recall done to your vehicle, where they were having some issues with emissions (imagine that), so they change out your distributor rotor, distributor cap, plug wires, and spark plugs.. so free basic tune-up.
