Help me convince my parents to buy me FC
OK, first of all, I'm only 14, (15 this thanksgiving) so there are still a few years before i get my first car. My parents will probably want to buy me an early ninetees Valvo 240 sadan, 'cause those things are built like ******' tanks. (My cousin rolled one completly over on a highway and escaped with a dented hood.) That's what the bought for my brother anyway. I never wanted to have a Volvo and always wanted a more reasonable sports car for a first car. I just the idea tonight that maybe I could convince my parents to get me a NA 5-speed FC for 3000 or under and around 100k or under. I think this would be a great first car being that it's pretty cheap, not under or over-powered for a 17 year old kid, and it would give me some RWD experience. So anyway, do you guys have any suggestions that could help me convince my parents when the time comes to make this umm "investment?" Also, any reasons why you wouldn't suggest this as a first car. By the way, I have money ($2,400 at the moment) I could contribute to the car if my parents didn't think it was worth the money, but that's supposed to be FD money .
Thanks guys,
Jim

I would say the FC is a good car to start with. It can be more than you would like for reliability, but it shouldnt be too bad. Theyre fun cars and pretty affordable, I say go for it! One thing is I wouldnt reccomend it in the winter-time considering it will be your first winter and a lightweight RWD car and new jersey = BAD
A good, affordable sports car to get started with, and theyre a lot of fun. One downside is no backseat
As for convincing your parents, I dont know what you can say to them. Theres really no attributes of the FC that appeal to a parent other than the fact that they are pretty cheap.

Heres a super safe bmw that rolled:
Heres a rx7 that rolled. Just imagine doors and ****. Rx7s have solid steel unibody construction, which makes them really strong cars.
I cant remember his name, Silk something, rolled his FC I think. Maybe look for some posts on the racing forum by him. There may be some pictures

thay are a verry good handeling, and brakeing, so when the *** in front of you slams on the brakes dont worry becuase you got plenty of stoping power.
and you cant really flip an FC over easy least ive never heard of one rolling over on a highway. so you dont have to worry about it being built like a tank.
drive safely thats the most you can really say to them good luck

when the time comes to make this umm "investment?"
That's the worst investment I've ever heard of!!!
And my insurance is like 200 a month, and I am 16, so that is the huge down side to haveing a RWD sports car, and being a young male. But then again that 200 dollars a month was with my NA, when I tell the insurance company I have a turbo. The insurance should go up more. Ohh yeah, and that is just liability. (don't tell your parents about the isurance thing either )

so when the *** in front of you slams on the brakes dont worry becuase you got plenty of stoping power.
BUT, does the *** behind you that is tailgateing have to power to stop with you (Just get out of the car holding your neck and complaining of whip lash if he doesn't)

Hm...a 16 yr old buying an FC. So, I guess the parents will be "investing" in this car if you can convince them.
There's no way your part time salary or if you can hack a full time school and work, can pay for the insurance and maintenance on a sports car especially a new driver. Your parents will get sick and tired of paying for repairs. I guarantee it.

Haha that pic of the rolled fc is my parts car i totaly stripped lol. Anyways for stopping power and handleing its great when you have good weather but horrible when your in rain or snow. The first day i got my rx-7 running it was raining and i took it out and the first thing i did was blow right through a stop sign, the damn thing didnt want to stop. Then i was leaving school once and just turned right and gave it hardly any gas and the car went totaly sideways and started sliding to the curb so i counter steared and went totaly sidways the other way to that curb, when i almost hit that i went back the otherway sidways then back again the other way finnaly i got it straight, but that wasnt the end, i let the clutch out cuz i finally had control and guess what it went totaly sideways again then back the otherway sidways and i got it straght and finnaly was on my way all the while 2 cars where coming probly scared out of there minds. But anyways thats my storys on how a rx-7 is not a good car for rain driving. I have sence then never locked my brakes up or got it sidways on pupouse so be carefull id say learn your cars limits in a parking lot with no cars and push it till it breaks loose(do this in the rain or snow please i dont want any deaths) and see how far you can push your brakes before they lock up.
Oh yea and here is a pic of another rolled 7 just so you can see mazdas craftsmanship put to good use

I think it's a horrible idea to give any teen any sort of car with power. I know way too many people friends and others who have died, killed others or totaled fast cars.. I know that when I was 16 if I had had anything other than an Oldsmobile it would have been scary.. hell the Olds wasn't even fast and I drove that thing so hard..

Im sorry but i think this is a really bad idea. I know 4 ppl that are around 16 that have totalled there FC's. Its a great car but it requires skill and skill can only be attained after driving a good amount of years. Your prob not going to listen at the age your at and prob just gonna get that car anyway, but please if you have any common sense dont buy an Rx7 as your first car, odds are you going to destroy the car
Listen get a beater with a manual tranny, somthing slow like an older DSM perhaps, get used to stick shifting and just get some experience driving before you get into a sports car like an Rx7. Youll be doing yourself a lot as well as the car.

I'm 19 and my rx-7 is my first car. I had to work from the time I was a junior up till now to get enough money for the car. It STILL doesn't work real well, so I honestly don't know it's true power, but from what I've heard, I do not think it is a good first car for NEW drivers... I've been driving for 5 years in my moms accords and my sisters contour, so I have learned in those cars that nobody else knows how to drive out in the real world... I'm glad I didn't learn that the hard way because I was going to fast in my sports car to pay attention to anybody else... I say learn how to drive first, then get a 7 :-)

My dad picked out my Rx-7 when I was 16, and he let me buy a Camaro at 17, but that was after years of building up the trust, he knew they could weren’t the safest but he trusted me to be careful…on the Volvo note, I heard you could swap out the engine and Trans and drop in the old mustang 302. I heard you could make them real fast, that’s just what I read in a magazine years ago, don’t know much else about it.

I'm 17, and after a hard year of busting my *** to study hard for SATs, ACTs, and get two jobs, my mom paid for my TII.
I pay all insurance ($100/mo), and any upgrades. So far I've spent about $1000 in it.

man the way you typed that made me laugh out loud...
i can just see a car flying back forth between two curbs...
sucks you had to experience it, but its good that nothing bad happend so i can laugh about it without feeling guilty!
