HELP! I just got smoked!
I'm sorry if this gets lengthy, I'm kinda freaking out!
So I was on my way to work when the engine cut out on me, and smoke started pouring out of the hood and the defroster vents. When I popped the hood with my fire extinguisher in hand, I saw that the main wiring harness that runs over the top of the engine (right behind the alternator) had smoke pouring out of it. I also saw that my fuse-box was glowing. (I had lost the cover some time ago)
The EGI COMP fuse had somehow shattered, and the two electrodes welded together so they couldn't burn out, like fuses are supposed to.
I tried examining the wiring diagram, and I'm assuming it's those crappy solenoids that shorted out (the 20K one had been cut out a long time ago, I don't know what the other one does...)...
I'm a backyard mechanic with moderate knowledge, and no money. (okay, so there's a tiny little bit of money...) I've got a ride to work for a couple of weeks with my boss, but I need to get my ride back a-rollin... I tried searching the archives, but I'm at a loss of where to start! Does anybody know where I can get a harness to replace mine? Does it need replacing? Can I wire up something else just to get by? I hope I didn't fry my ECU!
Is there anything else I should do (simplification, upgrade, power adders) as long as I've got the thing apart?
Any advice is wholly appreciated!

I had this problem mabey 3 years ago with my 89GXL. I think my EGI fuse shorted. So I stuck a bigger one in and the wires fried with lots of smoke. I only did it to see if I can get my g/f back home after getting stuck in a ghettoish area. I did travel an extra 20 feet including a u turn
I did 2 things. First I unwrapped my entire wiring harness and mapped out the wires. Look at it long enoughf and its pretty simple. Then I figured out wich ones need splicing. So I cut that part out of another wiring harness from a junk yard. Got it started and ran great but the lights would blow a fuse everytime it rained. After awhile I just bought a full wiring harness from mazda recycling in sacramento. They ship and check there parts before shipment (includes warrenty) This cost me 125$ I eventually did the other side to. While I was at it I rewrapped the entire wiring loom with red E tape and loom from kregan. Looked great and very reliable. After the first time I can probably get the entire harness installed in about 2 hours pluss minus. www.thepartstrader.com might also have some available.
