Exclamation Help: Hunting idle, stalling. Purge valve the problem?

I am just gonna put it this way, I have no clue about car's. My dad was a drag racer back in the 60's but, since this car has eletronic's he said he's not sure. So, I will explain my problem maybe someone can help...

Please if someone can help, I wish to save the car b4 any damage is done. I love my car.

The breather has been removed/replaced with a K&N filter, don't ask why I don't know. :-P But My car rev's about from 800 to 1400 and almost die's sometimes. Everyone I ask think's its a vacuum leak. It shoot's out some things of smoke in puffs when it does it, and the engine shakes dramatically. Also, the check engine light does pop on. I just had the engine rebuilt. And I did the wd40 trick... To no availe. So basically it runs very hard and when I push the gas driving wise. It like makes a leap like its lack of air. I think thats why its a leak. The guy who had it b4 me has done much stuff to it.

specs that has been done that I know of anyway
Removed both cad conv's
Removed air filter breather (orignal mazda rx7 hose still there)

Question: Do you think I should just buy an aftermarket if it is this breather hose, I think it is leaking by the 2 joints that the vacuum hoses plug into on the bottom of the breather hose, not sure. As I said I know very less about the cars, just the engine. I am not an intake man.

Next Question: I was supposed to ask for a recipe for my car. If anyone can help there.

Thread edited for a better title. In the future, try to use a descriptive thread title. You'll get better responses, and it will make this topic more relevant when people are searching.

It sounds like a vacuum leak. Or the vent and vacuum solenoids are bad or leaking. First thing, buy a Haynes manual.
Make sure that any hoses that were disconnected are reconnected, or make sure they are plugged. If you have a disconnected hose and you don't plug the place it plugs in to it will cause a leak. Then, try spraying WD40 or propane around the place where you think it is leaking. If it is a leak the idle will change for a moment.
