help deciding first car
i know that this question's been ask like over 1000x, but please bear with me on this one. Well me being a rotary fan for the past 2-3 yrs. I'm currently 16 yrs. and thinking about finally getting the FC as my first car. its just one of those things I got to get, even though all my friends say the rotary's not reliable and for me to get a honda ( their typical honda fans boys) i appreciate the rotary too much to even think about that.
Which would be a better platform as a starter between the s4 and s5 TII???
I won't be buying until late summer or mid-fall UNLESS i find one i can't pass up. oh yea i've done some research you can say, ( I'm one of those kids who researches something before getting into it ) and i would know the basics to maintenance and the other stuff.
but if you experts could chime in on this youngling's questions it would be a great help. Thanks

The S5 TII would be better. I am personally glad I didn't have a 7 as my first car as I did stupid **** in it. But I did have my N/A as a second car and loved all 70,000 miles of it. Now I have a TII and I never look back.

that's what i was thinking too, but its just impossible to find a s5 TII around the mid-west these days. but if its true, then I'm willing to wait for one. when I get a 7 I'm gonna cherish it like it was part of me lol I've seen so many people do stupid stuff to their cars, and I'm stuck there thinking "how could someone do something so stupid." i guess probably cause their mainly hondas though.

holy, insurance is going to kill you on a turbo 2 even if you were under your parents name, even na's are expensive as a first car, sorry to say but if you dont have a part time job then you should look into something like a vdub or ( i know im going to get flamed for this ) honda .
Edit: na's wont be THAT much on insurance under your parents name BUT you will feel your wallet getting lighter .

I'll start by just saying I love these cars. I fell for them when I was 14 and saw a TII sitting in front of a relative's house. On ramps. lol it had a fuel filter problem or something, I forget. If you get one just don't get stupid. Be nice to it, maintain it, learn how to repair it and know its every nut and bolt so that when it breaks it doesn't break you, too. Even the NA's have been known to be capable of hitting 140+mph on an open stretch. When I was your age it was much better that I had a 1.6L powered 323 hatchback lol with its laughable 4 speed it took quite a while just to hit 100. That, alas, was for the best. I learned how to fix **** with that car, I've learned how to create art with my '7. Now I rock my TII safely while insanely.

oh for insurance im covered basically, my uncle works at State farm so there's a plan where im under my parents name and i only have to pay about $60 a month ( but if i get a ticket then its directly goes under my name and that's when all hell will break loose on insurance )

pray, that you dont try to do something stupid and race/get into a accident. also i want in on that 60$ a month for my 7 . i got busted for "excessive acceleration" which is a B.S ticket , but anyhoo i ended up with a 300$ ticket and now my insurance went up.

i don't recommend it unless: your parents have lots of money to throw at it or you are extremely mechanically inclined.
get an N/A either way, you will kill yourself in a turbo car.

haha i know, i'm getting one heck of a deal for insurance so im not willing to risk that lol

id problay recomend a 2nd gen non turbo as your first car. there much more reiliable than a turbo rx7 and more affordable for a young person. then maybe a couple yrs down the road look into getting a turbo car or swaping after you have gotten used to the na rx7.

but yea i was thinking about that lol but im getting some opractice from my brother's car ( 3000gt vr4 ) and cousins too ( Mazdaspeed Protege ) each 12 sec. cars. and i'll be getting the hang of RWD from my other cousin's s14. so hopefully i'll be good by the time i get one lol

Honestly, get an na. That's right...non-turbo. not as much involved in maintanence and repair and working on an na for a while before you dig into a turbo will give you a sound knowlege of a rotary ahead of time. Make no mistake, you will spend plenty of time wrenching. I know plenty of guys have gone t2 right away and there is nothing wrong with that. Going na first will give you a chance to learn the cars behavior, handling, sounds, vibrations, and how to reaaaallly DRIVE the car before you get enough power to get yourself into trouble. also, a well tuned na will be cheaper to build for your first car and will eat your buddies hondas for afternoon snacks. Just my 2 cents, everyone here will give you sound advice, since we have all had different experiences we will all have different suggestions. No matter what decision you make, welcome to the community and have fun. Best advice ever? READ A LOT!!!!!! Good luck.

I was thinking of going this route if by the time i could get one and a TII isn't available then i'd get a N/A and work my way up. but right now my minds pretty set on a TII

Start out with an n/a. Less complex, easier to maintain, cheaper, and less likely to blow up due to noob-ish mistakes.
If you do end up in a TII, find a stock one and don't mod ANYTHING until you completely understand the consequences of increasing airflow through the engine (lean conditions specifically).

i dont know why you ask us to tell you what rx7 to get, we all are going to tell you to get a na for your safety but in the end its your money and us bugging you about it is going to do nothing to stop you from buying a t2.
