Help with buying an 88 FC...

Hi,
There is an 88 N/A RX-7 for sale pretty close to me that I was looking at today. It is recently repainted red (beautiful) with 160k on the chassis and 90k on the engine (no receipts, however). It is a 5sp with a mint black leather interior with aftermarket CD and Speakers. Full exhaust. 15" Mitsubishi 5-Spoke Rims on front and 16" 7-Spokes on the rear (the front 7-Spokes were stolen). Recent tuneup with oil, spark plugs, fuel filter, and intake manifold. He is asking $2600 but needs to sell it ASAP and is going to take it to the dealer to trade it in Tuesday. I'm guessing the dealer is gonna offer him **** so I was going to say $2000 cash and I can have it for you tomorrow. What do you think? I know there is a million buying FAQs for the FDs, but I haven't found any for the FC. I am going to drive/buy? it maybe Sunday or Monday. What are some things I should look for other than the obvious? I have a decent understanding of rotaries, but I'm no genious. From the lookings of things, I know more than this guy selling the car. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Todd

sounds like an ok deal considering its got a nice interior and good body (check to see if all the body panels line up straight). i'm sure you know of a lot of the basic stuff to look for, but see that it :

doesn't smoke
oil pressure comes up and stays around 60 at least when driving
revs up all the way (no hesitations)
idles smoothly around 800
smooth shifting
clutch grabs quickly

also, if you take it out for a spin and you bring it back...shut it off for a few minutes...and make sure it'll start right up after a few minutes. some fc's have a hot start problem...

good luck with it...i'm sure some other guys have a better idea on what to offer for a price
