Check your starter. Mine blew on my Monte and I didn't know what was going on it would start after a few tries but after I did that a couple times it wouldnt at all. When I pulled the starter it had broken 2 teeth off my flywheel I didn't think anything of it and put a new one on... I didn't tighten it enough and it blew more teeth off the flywheel.
If it's grinding when you try to start it should feel like its directly under you.
I am saying from experience on other cars, it's entireally possible I am wrong with the RX7, but I would check it.

Seriously don't do it till it craps on you, there is a high probability of destroying your flywheel each time you hear the grinding noise. I meen I have driven with up to 6 teeth missing but that was just luck of it starting again and again. Though it your flywheel, do as you will lol
