Well your heater could be bypassed.
Check by looking at the hoses that go to the firewall. IF they are connected and there is no cooloant on your floor board then it might be something with you logicon that selects heat.

My buddy had a rigged 7 with a coat hanger that he had to pull to open the heat door. So what are the position the controls are in?

When you slide it over to the red you should hear a noise which is the coolent going to the heater core not sure what the sound is exactly weather its some valve opening or whatever, but I hear it since I switch between hot and cold so the windows don't turn foggy.

if you don't hear anything then I'm guessing the logicon isnt working, check the fuses maybe?

look unerneath the dash and see if you can open the heat door manualy. First look over the FSM to find what your looking for. It most likely is your logicon not functioning properly.

Slide heater controls to right. You should hear a motor turning like a toy car. If not, your logicon needs to be resoldered.

I'm not sure about removing the glovebox. I do know my buddies 7 had a coat hanger to open the heat door and it was on the drivers side.

IF you can find a logicon at a junkyard for cheap try replacing it and see if that works.

Temporary fix

All of my '87s (I've owned three) had this same problem at one time or another. The problem is most likely with your logicon and / or air mix motor (motor that opens the flapper door to allow heated air into the cabin). Here's a temporary fix to get you through the winter:

1) Slide the driver's seat all the way back and if you have a tilt steering wheel, tilt it all the way up.

2) Crawl under the dash on the driver's side and remove the foot duct that directs air downward (at your feet ). It should be held on by one screw directly below the steering column.

3) With the duct out of the way, you should see a pin connected to a rod that opens and closes a flapper door, disconnect the pin from the rod (unhook it from the white plastic that connects them).

4) Now you can manually open or close the flapper door by pushing or pulling on the rod (trust me it will make sense when you see how it operates).

5) Enjoy heat once again!

Before you crawl under the dash or start taking things apart, just make sure the cooling system is properly bled. An air bubble can stop the heater core from flowing rather easily.
