headlight switch smokin!
well i was driving around last night in my 89t2 and didnt drive all that hard. crusin' home aobut 1/2 mile from my house and i start to smell a wierd electrical smell, check the headlight switch and it was pretty hot. so i turn it off as im drivng down my neighborhood road, and the gauges start flickering on a bit and i see smoke start coming out the switch. by this time i was already home parked the car and turn off the car, still smoking and the gauges are flickering on. i run inside grab a exstinguisher (*just in case*) and i go pull the postive terminal off the battery.
now the previous owner warned me about the switch and hot it can get hot and im aware that they like to blow up, but what the hell! that is just not cool at all. i tried a search to see if theres fix for this but all i found was posts on how other peoples died too. What is going on do i need to get my electrical nerd freind over and put a resistor in there or put power wire?
any advice other than replace it when it dies? this seems very odd any ideas of help would be very appreciated.
thanks newbie t2 owner

It's the headlight switch harness.. typical trouble spot. There's an old thread here on how to prevent or reduce failure, but I don't have it available at the moment.
