Headlight switch or relay?

Headlight switch or relay?
Well my headlights didn't turn on this evening. I got into the car. Pop the lights up but no headlights. Had all markers and interior, brakes worked fine. It happened last week to, but after a few times of turning the rotary **** it's stayed on. I didn't know what to do so after a bout 2 min. I figured I drive the 2 miles to my house hoping I don't get pulled over by cops. Before I left the parking lot They came on suddenly. Then I stopped at a redlight. They turned off. Turned into my apt. complex they turned on all the way till I went to park. then they shut off again. Where should I start looking. I don't have alot of time to get this done. Is it the switch itself?. Does this car have a headlight relay? If so where is it?

Check your Fuse at the Fuse block in the Engine bay.The retractor Motors are on a different Circuit,so since you could Pop up your Lights that would be fine. The Fuse is located right beside the Retractor fuse.Your Interior lights and marker light are also have different Fuses too.(Room fuse, illumination fuse,Meter fuse, something like that).

I think it's the switch itself. I have the same problem except it's my taillights that go off and on. I pulled out the beazle and the switch where the wires are plugged into looks burnt. It is actually half black.

Well it happedned to me again. I havn't messed with it to figureout where it is. I think it's the switch. I can turn the **** back and forth 20 times. Eventually the lights will come on. Think it's a contact or something.

The only lights in the whole car that have a relay on them are the headlights, every other frickin light is wired right into the switch (they are fused but that doesn't keep the switch from getting fried). so chances are that when your guage lights are out , so are your running lights which is particularly dangerous at night. The headlight relay location is somewhere up by the lights I think look in your manual for exact location.
You can probably find the relay you need at Radio Shack, but Icemark sells the one you need with the wires and connectors and most importantly instructions.
Oh and be prepared to brake some plastic when taking things appart.

Hmm, I remember my headlights started flickering one night under hard driving and eventually went out. I saw that the headlight relay was fried, water maybe? Replaced it and I was good to go. I remember that when I was messing with the relay though that I fried the headlight switch. Try swapping the relay from another one and see if it works. As for the headlight switch if it eventually comes on I don't think its the switch. Pop your hood and look towards the left of the driver's side headlight lid. You'll see a row of relays, go to the FAQ and look at the electrical section in the manual to see which one the headlight relay is, or just have a friend flash the high beams while you hear it click (?)

any auto parts store will sell this relay. its very common. the hardware store like loews or home depot might even carry it. look at the wiring diagram on the relay. google spdt relay wiring diagram.
