Anyone wanna take a stab at what caused it?

My guess is an oiling problem, either a lack of oil or oil breakdown, causing the front bearing to seize onto the e-shaft, and thereby twisting the e-shaft off.

Am I right? Is it possible to move the front pulley at all?

HOLY BOVINE!

I NEVER thought it was possible!

I would think that you could twist one (slightly) but SNAP IT OFF?!

I have seen the exact same thing in an FD motor about 2 years ago at a shop just outside of Dallas. Import Motorsports in Wylie, TX. I was picking up a rotor for the motor that was going in my TII convertible, and the guy who owned the shop (Shannon) told me he had something that I had to see.

I never would have thought I'd see it again, lol. I don't quite remember, what he came up with as the cause, but I remember that he was talking to a lot of mazda people and some race shops to try to figure it out. I may give him a call to see if he remember what the cause was.

I've had a bent E-shaft before...but never seen one snap. My guess is a major bearing failure at very hight rpms...but even then......it would take some serious torque to snap it. Very...Very impressive. CJ

I've seen a 396 out of a 69 SS Camaro where a cam bearing was misinstalled, and when the owner blew a shift and redlined it, the bearing seized, and sheared the cam apart.

And that just started the damage....

End result from all: needed a new engine.
