Anyone wanna take a stab at what caused it?
My guess is an oiling problem, either a lack of oil or oil breakdown, causing the front bearing to seize onto the e-shaft, and thereby twisting the e-shaft off.
Am I right? Is it possible to move the front pulley at all?

I have seen the exact same thing in an FD motor about 2 years ago at a shop just outside of Dallas. Import Motorsports in Wylie, TX. I was picking up a rotor for the motor that was going in my TII convertible, and the guy who owned the shop (Shannon) told me he had something that I had to see.
I never would have thought I'd see it again, lol. I don't quite remember, what he came up with as the cause, but I remember that he was talking to a lot of mazda people and some race shops to try to figure it out. I may give him a call to see if he remember what the cause was.

i agree....its an oiling problem...when i was working at downtown toyota this ladies previa was pushed into the bay because she never knew cars needed oil changes. the engine was seized so the pistons were broken off inside and the shaft was twisted off haha....

And that just started the damage....
End result from all: needed a new engine.
