Has anyone ever blown a motor from not porting your wastegate?

I would like to know how many guys or gals have blown their motors with Racing Beat REV II exhaust on a stock S4 turbo? I keep reading about how it's a must to port the wastegate. Tell me your storys. Please.

I'm sure some people will chime in, but a factory boost level of 5.5 spiking to 12 or more psi with no fuel control is bad. Even with an fcd you still need more fuel.

Dont do it.

Or do it and pop your engine.

So your saying if I get something like an Rtek chip with more fuel, I'm good. But you have never actually blown a motor with REV II exhaust on a stock S4 turbo. I need to hear from somebody that has actually blown a motor on a stock S4 turbo with the REV II exhaust. Anybody?

I am saying i have a lot more sense than to blow an engine by neglecting the obvious with an exhaust set up. Not gonna be a lot of stories for you because most people do their research first.

oh forgot to answer rtek question: Yup.....definately a 2.1 is cool, you can prob get away with the 1.7 and 720 cc secondaries.

I'm sure you have good sense and I have done research. Matter of fact, that is what I'm doing now but the fact that you say it, doesn't make it so. So if anyone wants to say something like "Do it and find out" doesn't cut the mustard.
And I'm talking about a stock S4 turbo with Racing Beat REV II exhaust. Anybody else?

ummmmm.....plenty of info to be found on this site. I told you "dont do it" first, right?

Look.......port the wastegate or get fuel control, kinda simple.

Boost creep sucks major ***.

When I did my swap initially I used a S5 turbo with 2.5 straight through exhaust and it would creep like a mother. I'd hit 12+psi with a little throttle. I got very lucky and didn't pop the motor with my stock 550's.

Do it right the first time.
What's cheaper? porting a wastegate or pulling a blown motor?

Oh, I'm running a stock S5 turbo right now because my ported one blew and it's hitting 15psi with the boost controller set at 10psi. I'm running 720's and an Rtek so it can at least handle it. It's still sketchy though.

But it wasn't a Racing Beat REV II on a S4 turbo. What exhaust did you have?

S4 turbo wastgates are REALLY small.

If I had boost creep with a S5 dual runner, guess what's going to happen to a S4?

I don't think the Racing Beat is straight thru exhaust. Is it?

But a boost controller doesn't keep you from hitting high boost. By ported , you mean ported wastegate or ported motor? How did you blow the motor? Every car is suppose to be different right? But I can't find anybody that can tell me they popped a motor on an S4 turbo with an unported wastegate. Strange. Anybody else?

I had REV TII exhaust on a stock S5 turbo with stock airbox and I creeped. The S5 has a larger wastegate that flows more so you will probably end up creeping on the S4. Id go ahead and port the wastegate.

I get that the wastegate is smaller on the S4. But is the REV II opened up enough to call for porting the wastegate? What exhaust did you have Digi7?

rtek 1.7, 720 cc secondaries... you'll be fine I have had that set up with the REV II exhaust for almost 2 years. Never ported the waste gate, never had a problem

Strange........you posted this less than two hours ago. Take the next two hours and quietly pull your turbo and port your wastegate. Or package your ecu and send it to pocketlogger.

I find it strange that you need to hear several horror stories in order to take advice.

Now we are getting somewhere. Not quite what I was looking for but RichmondFC has not ported the wastegate.

I just talked to Racing Beat and they said "on a stock 88 turbo, all you need with the REV II is the Fuel Cut part. hmmm..
He said there is no need to port the wastegate. hmmm..
RicmondFC may not have needed to use the rtek and 720 secondaries. I wonder if a rtek 1.5 would be OK? I don't want to change injectors.
What do you think RichmondFC?

I ran
Rtek 1.5 /Cleaned 550's/RB 2.5 downpipe and presilencer/Corksport 3inch catback/S5 turbo

I had no boost controller. It would creep way past 10 which is the acknowledged safe limit for stock 550's.

I am currently running
Rtek 1.7/720cc secondaries/Rising rate FPR/RB 2.5 DP and PS/Custom 2.5 dual catback/S5 turbo nonported wg/boost controller set to 10psi
I boost ALL THE WAY TO 15psi and that's with throttle modulation to make sure I don't go any higher!

We're trying to save you from buying a motor.

RB isn't mentioning the whole deal.
Fuel cut defencer's suck *****. Rtek is better.

The Exhaust DOES NOT give you more horsepower. The INCREASED boost does due to a better flowing system overrunning the inferior wastetgate

The CORRECT way to increase power is to get bigger injectors/Rtek/good exhaust/Ported wastegate/ and here's the important part..... THEN use a boost controller to bring up the psi to the desired levels.

Unpredictable boost WILL get your motor at some point. Maybe not now but it will in the end.

So sorry dawicka2. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.
First you said I have to port, then when I bring up the rtek your like Oh I forgot to say...
Then you say, port the wg or send your ecu to rtek. Which is it? I thought my question was simple. It was a wastegate question. Do you have to port the wg? Your all over the place then you say I dismissed you. Then the orvel redenbacher comment. Racing Beat says.. no porting the wg. My tuner says no porting the wg. Richmond says no porting the wg. I did not dismiss you. But insulting me doesn't help. It makes you look dismissable. Maybe your giving me good info but you have no proof.

Digi7, I appreciate that you are trying to save my motor for me but you have not ported your wastegate then or now.

Why would RB not tell me the whole deal? Just to sell an exhaust? I don't buy that.

I don't want to raise the boost level with a boost controller. You may be correct about more fuel. But I need more info. I use a reputable tuner and he says I don't have to port the wg. You think he wants me to pop the motor so he can rebuild it? I don't think so. If he tells me I don't need it, then I pop, he looks like a crook and from what I've seen in the last 3 years, he's not a crook.

If I can't find someone that has popped a motor, maybe I can find someone that has a stock motor with the REV II still going strong. Anybody?

Get a Wideband watch your afrs and you decide.

You may be able to get by with a 1.5 but I don't recommend it, but make sure you watch your AFRs if your going this route.

MY suggestion; 1.7 and secondaries, or port your wastegate.

Will do RicmondFC. Thanks for the info.

Franco, I will have an fcd.

Ricmond, I don't want bigger injectors. Its because I'm lazy according to da wicka.

I guess no body has actually popped a motor with the REV II exhaust on a stockS4. Maybe it's a myth.

Hey Rick Its Johny I really think you'll be OK with the exhaust and a FCD ( fuel cut defender ) . The engine in the car is nice and healthy And besides once you pull the turbo she'll never be the same meaning the bolts will probably not come out of the heat sheilds and stuff. I would run a boost gage temperarily to see how much you were boosting. If it got over 12 psi Id bite the bullett and port the wastegate.
I droppped you a check the other day also
Good luck Johny
