hard left turn syndrome...car wont start
this happend a month ago at an autox event and just happened again today.
when taking a hard left turn the motor shuts off and will not start back up for anything. It wants to start back up and rotates and even gets a second or two of spark but just won't get going.
does anyone know how to fix this left turn problem?

I know about the fuel sock being clogged. that's why i took it off and the car still won't start, even after manually running the pump off of the tail light. I believe the injectors are not firing for some reason.
I am not a complete ignoramus when it comes to these cars. it may also have something to do with the fact that there is not a lot of power going to the fuel pump. I hot-wired it from the tail light and it runs fine, but when i tested the connector it was low on voltage.

Sounds like you've got a loose connection/short somewhere. You can check the injectors via a simple procedure in the FSM which is perma linked in the faq as well. Section 4 I think.
Are you saying the car starts fine with the pump hot wired to the tail light?

no the car won't start at all. I am going to try to tow start the car today to see if I can get it running.
I re-checked the wiring and all seems to be fine now.

well, I just towed my car behind my friends diesel truck for 7-8 blocks at 20-27 mph. it wasn't even trying to start, i mean it would rotate, but sounded like there was not any fuel getting ignited, I have spark, I have a working fuel pump. could my afm be messed up, or the main fuel filter clogged?
I replaced the fuel pump strainer with a new one so that is not a problem.

well, now i noticed that my main 100a fuse is blown so off to the store to get a new one, too bad i didn't look closer earlier as this may now be the culprit since all else seems ok.

well if you are talking about the plates that circle the fuel pump being the baffles then like i said before, they are fine. i have stuck my hand in the tank and felt all around the edges and it is in great shape, that and i can see them shiny as can be.
if the baffles are something else then I must be clueless

well it will run when i spray a bit of starter fluid in the intake. funny thing is is it runs the same way whether or not the fuel pump fuse is connected.
it runs rough and dies once the starter fluid is gone. i am able to rev it to about 4000 when i dump a lot into the intake. lots of white smoke too. I also hear the afm stuggling to get air, but maybe that is how it sounds when taken off but still connected.
It is my best guess that in fact it is not getting any fuel from the injectors.
once i determined this i went back to the pump, which worked fine yesterday, and it would not run with the key turned forward. then i hotwired it and it would not run that way either.
I don't understand why it would work yesterday and now work today. today when hotwired it would blow my 15a fuses when hooked up properly.
I guess i need to get a new fuel pump, but i am going to test it further before i go and spend more money on my car, just in case.

wiring was fine because i first used the plug and nothing. then i hotwired it...nothing. reversed the wires just to make sure...nothing.
I separated the thread to draw new attention as i have narrowed the problem, no biggie, hopefully i'll get some more help on this one.
i'm going to pull the pump and try to get it to run if it won't in goes the new one. otherwise something with the injection is bad.
any more ideas or advice on how to check the injectors without pulling them out, other than the screwdriver to the ear trick or pulling the leading plugs and cranking the motor?

If its an S5 and your holding your holding the throttle wide open the fuel gets cut off i believe. Its an de-flooding feature. That could possibly be the problem? Either that or maybe check your plugs? Are they wet/dry? Do they smell of fuel? Compression test? Why did your main fuse blow? Battery bad? Are you getting spark? Are your plugs/wires bad? We need more info...

read previous posts, it should all be there but just for your sake, it's not flooded, it is not getting fuel. compression is fine. battery was just recharged so it is perfect. i am getting spark, plugs wires are fine.

smack the pump around when you hard wire it. i had cause me problems in my 240...same kinda setup, the car would run like ***, then it wouldnt run at all. i had my friend turn it over while i smacked the top of the pump (while it was in the tank still) vrooom fired right up. took the pump out, had him turn on ignition, nothing, smacked it, it turned on.

smack the pump around, i had a pump that went on me, and to get it running again, i just had to smack it around. see if that works, if it does go get a new pump. its too bad youre not in calgary, i have like 3 of them...lol

so im guessing you removed the lil pouch from the pump? lasty time i checked, this ***** up your pump.the pouch acts as a prefilter. id get a new pump and a new pouch with it. i would also get a new fuel filter if it hasnt been replaced.
i had the same problem. i just bought a new pump n new pouch n vroom automatic start up.

well, i just purchased a walbro 255 high pressure pump which should get to me by wed. I should get a new fuel filter too, maybe even braided lines. anyways I hope the new pump does me some good, i've got a race to run on sunday at mineral wells, tx.
