Gullwing RX-7
OK, I know that you have all seen the Gullwing RX-7's out there. Has anyone done it to their car. I was curious and visited the patent office and Rickey Newmayer still holds the patents for the gullwing 7. Anyone visit his shop in CA few years back? Below are some pics and the patent that he holds.

I don't think the doors would be that expensive. Strengthen the roof, strengthen the door, get proper latchs. Actually with labor that seems about right lol.
But one could do it themselves for a lot less, maybe even less than a grand if they did all the labor themselves (cept maybe getting some custom hinges manu'ed)
Would take a hell of a long time, and probably a few screw ups.

Those are not real gull-wings. Real gull-wings hinge in the middle of the roof, not where the door meets the roof.
With that said, I have been thinking about this for quite a while. Adding gull-wings to a RX-7 shouldn't be too hard. The doors are fairly light, and almost the perfect shape. There is a spot at the front of the door for another latch. If the roof was cut, a metal frame could be made, and welded to the top of the door (after the door was reinforced). Torsion bars from a DeLorean could be used to help lift the door, and then a gas strut would support it. The hinges and such for the doors would be inside the car, covered by a modified headliner.
