GTUs takes on all comers: Thunderhill Pt. III
Yo,
My third trip to Thunderhill Raceway in the GTUs. Here is the first:
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=104171
Pulled a 2:26 fastest lap.
The second:
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=152637
Pulled a 2:21 fastest lap.
How about this time? You'll have to wait until the end!
Here's what you've been waiting for...the pics!
They wanted to know what number I wanted...Pfft. Numbah Seven, of course!! BTW, I can see 3 cars that I passed in the background. Can you find them? *grin*
Ahhh, the Yokohama A008R's. This would be their last Hurrah. The right front started to chunk, so I'm looking for a new R compound to replace them. They served me 3 open track sessions and they're like 8-10 years old!! Ancient for a race tire.
The Pimp. Yep, it's J-So, also known as Jsotelo or Jon. I dragged his *** up to Thunderhill to show him what an open track event is all about. Shh, don't tell anyone but I let him drive my car in the beginner group:
Here he is, ready for some 350Z killin'.
Blazing down the front straight at 8200rpm.
All in all we had a great time, the event was awesome, almost ran out of gas. I had to refill at $3 a gallon! Owie.
I was in the Advanced group and snuck into the Beginner group to go huntin'. I bagged:
Honda S2000
BMW 540i
Porsche 911 Cabrio x 2
Dodge Viper GTS
Yep, you heard me, a GTS! I'm tellin' ya, it was like Initial D! Big 'ol horsepower car vs. my lil' NA FC. Guess who was faster in the twisties? Bwahaha.
It was sweet. People came up to Jon and asked him if the GTUs had a supercharger or turbo...nope! Just the mad skillz. *grin*
Best time was a 2:18...next time with fresh meats...2:10 here I come!!

Ah man he barely talked about my kills..
First time on the track.. evar.. never raced before.. I don't even street race.. after two laps I started overtaking. It's all about the line!!
First to go down was a Honda Accord with a fart cannon... I would have taken my own life has I not passed him ;-)
Then I don't remember the exact order.. there were more cars I passed but the only kills that were really interesting were:
Jetta 1.8 turbonium
Ford Focus SVT
and the grandaddy of all
350z.. Yup that was the best kill of all. He had way more power in the straights and would pull ahead Initial D style but once the corners hit I would push his *** all the way through them.. eventualy he had to submit and signaled for me to pass him. I was elated.. I can't wait to do this again but daymn if it doesn't cost some skrills..
The SVT was really hard to pass.. that thing drove nice. It took the corners really well. I think it was the owner of that car that asked if the GTUs was turbo or not.. everyone kept saying how fast our car was.. we got good laughs all day long when we told them it dynoed 140 RWHP.
When Kev took the GTS on the backstraight my jaw dropped .. I had watched him push the car from behind from about turn 7-12 and on the backstraight it just waved him by.
It's very vindicating.. all these FD and TII owners that bag all day long that the na FC is slow and how it sucks.. also the ricers and the wanna be racers.. it's nice to be able to out drive them with a "slow" car.
Kev didn't mention that he passed a CYM FD. The guy was hella cool thou and hopefully he starts posting in these forums... Everyone was really cool. .except for the Accord guy who left early.
FC represent BABY!!!

Great to hear Rarest! Way to show what an n/a can do, and Im sure your driving was also a big factor. I would love to take my n/a to a road course and have some fun, but there arent really any around here locally.
Keep kicking ***...

Yo,
I actually didn't pass the CYM R1, I was looking for him though. That one session where I went crazy, I thought I would see him. I passed /everyone/ I set eyes on. It was a great way to end the day.
I hear you on the vindication thing, with all the ragging on the NA FC it's nice to prove the naysayers wrong.
I'll wait to hear the "The other guy couldn't drive..." excuse...but if it's a guy who has:
A. Bought a helmet
B. Taken a day off
C. Paid $250 to have an open track session
Then that same guy is going to be a better driver than some Joe Schmoe on the street.
Anyways, we represented hard. It was sweet.

Yo,
It was a guy named Phillip Holmes and a bunch of his friends. Only about 36-38 cars...very small group. It was really cool! I got in for cheap because someone had to drop out...there was a post in the Lounge about it.
Well...*puffs out chest*...my driving is exquisite. Not to mention my humbleness concerting my MDS. (Mad Driving Skills.)
*chuckle*
Yeah, it's kind of fun when you're behind someone and you say, "What line is /he/ taking?" Then take the correct line and gain about 50 feet on the guy. I especially had fun with the GTS, I would be pushing him in the corners, then he would put a little burst of speed on between turn 7 and 8...then I would fire through Turn 8 at Warp Nine and catch up to him by Turn 9.
I wish I had a video camera for all of that, you'd hear me in the car going, "Yeah, NOW what are you going to do?!" once I'd catch up to them in the corners and start pushing.
It was great. I can't wait to get some fresh tires and really start pushing the limits.

Yo,
Don't hate, congratulate!! *snicker* Actually, I'm working on getting the mirrors, rear wing, and bottom rear 1/4 painted for SS6.
Not to mention some other stuff...*wink*
Mike, yeah, 2:18 is pretty darn good for the level of mods I have. Thanks!
