The GTUs got a blue racing stripe, GTUs -> TII conversion update part 3
Here are the links to the two previous updates:

I did some more work on her this weekend. It was time to get the engine bay clean and ready for paint. I got just about everything I could out of the way. Everything else was wrapped up in tape and garbage bags. I even pulled off the wheels jacked up the car and covered the suspension components and lowered the car back down. I hate being ****.
Here are the pictures of it before I started sanding.

I am going to wait for it to cure for a week. Then I am going to wet sand and paint it with a one stage white. After that if I see any orange peel I will give it light color sand. Enjoy.

Yo,
Bro, looks awesome! Like I said before, there's nothing nicer than seeing something done right.
No yellow'ed white paint for your engine bay! *grin* Nothing but the bling-iest for TeamGTUs!
Before:
After:
Rattlecan primer? Don't think so:
I told you he was the man. No shortcuts.
Looking good!

More details please
Tell us what type of paint system your using if you would... for those of us who're considering "building the paint both at home"... but are consered about isotherms exposure protection.
Love to know your paint setup as well... exhaust, filtration, dust prevention, if you "peeled" any paint in addition to sanding, paintgun you've chosen, where you found a 15cfm "dual piston" electric aircompressor for under $700, etc...

For priming, things don’t have to be as controlled. So as long as there is not a lot of moisture in the air and I have a well-ventilated area it’s ok. I am using a low-pressure gravity feed gun. There are a lot of reasons for using this gun with this style of situation. The gun only requires 10psi of constant pressure this makes it easy on my compressor. I just fill it to the cut off point in the holding tank (160psi) and turn it off. I only had to re-fill it once. Second with this low-pressure gun it creates less over spray and is more controllable.
When it comes to the color painting process this is where I am going to step up and control the environment. After wet sanding I will set up a booth from the engine bay to the ceiling. I will create an entry point from the side and use an old box fan to vent the fumes out the garage. When this is set up I will prep the surface to make sure it is clean and set up a space heater to get the area to the correct temp. Spraying will have to be done quick and in one fell swoop. After that I will have heat lamps to help the curing/hardening process. After a couple of hours I should be able to take down the booth and I will let it cure for a couple of weeks before I install everything back in.

Ah, your only doing the engine bay then....
I guess for the engine bay, a "touchup paint only" gun that's HVHP or HVLP will do... even it's not quite rated for autopaint. The gun I'm looking at is high pressure for better atomization (who care's about waisted paint) and requires a 12CFM $700 compressor for constant use in painting the entire car. I think that's mostly for spraying the "very thick" topcoats... which requires ALLOT of volume & atomization.
So I guess your either using a charcole mask & paint scrubs or a non-lethal lacquor paint then ?? I want to spray Sherwin Williams 2nd best paint.. but that requires serious lung, body, & face protection... not to mention a paintbooth that's filtered & dust-free.
We sanding is great... but that final coat is where you need the dust free / downdraft environment (no clue on how to make a downdraft booth at home).
Hey let us know how it turns out.
