gt40 wastegate req

gt4082
q wheel... or p, pretty sure its p, no lets assume q
1+ AR or a 1.3 AR

is a 40mm gate sufficient to maintain a bar?

if not - what other gates could fit on a hks log?

The HKS 40mm wouldn't control boost as well as I liked on my T04S, and that is way smaller than a GT40. You can try the Tial 46mm and I think this adapter will work:

I don't have a problem holding spring pressure (0.9 bar) on my Tial 44MM with a GT4088R. However more important then the wastegate size (well, to a point anyway...) is manifold design. It really depends on how the manifold is set up. Crappy wastegate runners are going to cause issues regardless of the wastegate used.

i have been able to get more information in regards to the setup.
It is currently on a P-Trim divided hotside with a 1 ar

I am guessing I have what would be called a crappy manifold design - it is a hks log

Currently - it has the .7 bar spring in there - and from what it looks like - it is going to creep. I wonder if 1 bar would be able to be maintained consistently.

it looks like I may need a bigger gate...

I would love to look at your setup - but it is currently impossible as i am on dial up that connects around 19,200 bps... what manifold do you have?

Yeah, the HKS is known for boost creep issues. Will a GT40R even fit on that manifold?

I made my own manifold:

Hope that picture isn't too big. It's about 50K.

wow - nice looking manifold! Looks like the welds are done perfect on it too.

No, the GT40 doesn't like to sit on the HKS Log. When I first put it on - the compressor housing barely cleared the lower waterpump neck - so i ended up putting longer studs on the manifold and a small spacer to bring it out a little. Now I have enough room to hook the lower coolant hose on - but it is sitting very close to the brake line (as in under an inch close), so I will need to run new lines for the passenger side. The other issue is the Heater return pipe can't be used as the turbo is in the way. The compressor can only be clocked one way due to clearance issues with the frame rail and the waterpump... So with the only position it would fit - a U shaped intercooler pipe is needed right off the housing and because of that pipe - hood clearance became an issue. The hood then had the bottom shaved to give me ~3/4 inch of clearance with the hood shut.

And I still can't find anyone to weld me an illegal exhaust... I don't trust my welding on anything anyone want to look half decent...

It looks like the bolts on the wastegate are rusted and the moment i turn it with the correct bit - it strips... It looks like I just might have to stick with the standard gate for a while...
