Whats all the talk of GT-R and GT-X? I thought they were just called GTU, GXL, GTUs, TII and the other ones I don't feel like writing. How do I find out what mine is?

Ignore all the talk about GT-R and GT-X - all of it is WRONG.  It was a myth perpetuated a long time ago from the old TeamFC3S.ORG list due to a misunderstanding.  They are actually trim models in Japan that have NOTHING to do with years...
