Grenaded my turbo....
Long story short.. I was racing a Skyline and on the bottom of 4th my BNR let GO.. Lost most of the boost and started smoking so bad that people said they could see it from a mile away. Catastrophic damage to the turbine area to include a missing exducer fin. Compressor seems to have survived though.
At this point, I am not terribly sure what happened to the turbo, its barely a year and a half old, but it has led a HARD life although I never went over 17 PSI. I called Bryan but he seems to be on vacation, but I dont expect him to do any sort of warranty work on this, but I may send it to him anyways so he can assess the damage.
So having said that, it looks like my GT4088 project is now on the front burner, unless Bryan can salvage the BNR for a decent price. Cant say I have ever seen a turbo let go like that before!

that sucks.... problem with hybrids is they can only take so much abuse, putting too much stress on a small shaft can only lead to failure, it is also tougher to keep balanced perfectly with the small stock shaft on a hybrid but people have put down impressive numbers with them so i don't know why people "don't believe in them", most hybrids have already exceeded most people's expectations.

Here is the story:
I was coming back from the Pavilions in Scottsdale, and there was a Skyline that was on the road. So I buzzed him, and then he buzzed me back, so I figured it was on. So I threw it into 3rd to try to catch back up and see if he wanted to go on a roll. Soon as I dropped it into 4th on the catchup run, the turbo let go, and I lost most of the boost and the smoke started.
Thanks for the sympathy, but I am really not upset. Bryan makes a good turbo, and it exceeded my expectations. However it suffered greatly at my hands.. 2-step launches arent terribly good for turbine assemblies! I do have pics of the damage, but it all appears to be confined to turbine area. The compressor seems to have survived.
As far as upgrading, until I talk to Bryan, the decision to go full single or back to another BNR is still up in the air. It just depends on how much its going to run me to have the existing turbo repaired versus the price of getting the GT40.
Funny part is, my friend Trevor with an FD went ahead and tangled with the Skyline and got walked (not too badly). Turns out the Skyline was packing about 450 or so AWHP...

Yeah...the Skyline was packin'. He made a run at me from about 6-7 cars back and I let him go for a second thinking I was gonna own him. I dropped to third and stopped his pull when he had about 1/4 car on me. Thru 3rd he just sat there at my door. When I grabbed 4th I lost 1/2 carlength then he started pulling on me VERY slowly. Top of 4th his back bumper was at my front.
I didn't expect him to pull like that...especially since my car was running 100% (making more power than my sig probably). I felt better after I got on the computer and found that he's pushing 425 AWHP.

Oh no! I can talk all the **** I want, my original numbers still stand..
As for Bryan, we will probably have a big laugh about it. This thread was in NO WAY intended to highlight any problems with the BNR turbo.. As far as I am concerned it performed flawlessly. Its just a fun thread letting people know what happened to my car. The only thing I am interested in, is what happened to the turbo because besides 2-step launching (which is hard on a turbo), it never saw over 17 PSI, which is why I want to see if Bryan wants to look at it.
Buuuuuut....
Like Karack and Sonicrat already said, there is only so much a stock CHRA can really withstand, and I think I dished out a whole lot of whoop *** on that poor turbo.
